Report On World Cancer Day 2017

On 4rth February 2017, under the banner ‘We Can I Can’, the Department of Pharmacy Practice and NSS Unit, NET Pharmacy College organised a seminar on the event of “World Cancer Day year 2”, to create awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection and treatment. The programme was aimed to join the millions who urged to actively involve to help combat the world’s most deadly diseases. As a part of this programme a collage competition was conducted in the Pharmacy College on 3rd February to provide support to reduce the global burden. The seminar was conducted in Dr.Gurumurthy hall in the presence of the invited guests, staffs and the students of the college. The programme started at 10.00am with the invocation song by Miss. Madhuri.Dr. S Rahul, lecturer, Dept. of Pharmacy Practice welcomed the gathering. The preamble speech was given by Mr. Ramesh BabuGattu, NSS programme officer. The chief guest Dr. S.R. Hegde, Director , NMC addressed the gathering about the importance of prevention and early detection of cancer. Dr. H.Doddayya, Principal, NET Pharmacy College delivered the presidential remarks. Then the release of Pharmafocus Volume 2 Issue 4 was done by the guests on the dias. The presence of Dr.T. Srinivas, Registrar, NET on this occasion adds it’s importance. This was followed by awarding prizes to the collage competition winners by Dr. R H Udupi, Professor and Head, Dept. of pharmaceutical chemistry. The formal function was concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr.Murali Krishna, lecturer, Dept. of Pharmacy Practice. After this a video on ‘cancer a brief introduction, was played by Dr.JiluVarghese, Pharm D Intern. The scientific session began with Mr.ManjunathC J, Associate Professor, Dept.of Pharmacology introducing the resource persons. The 1st lecture was on the topic ‘ Cancer and its Management’ by Dr.TripthiKatti , MD, Associate Professor, Dept. of Pathology , NMC. This was followed by lecture 2 on ‘ Nano Technology for Cancer Therapy’ by Dr.PradanyaPatil, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Pharmaceutics. This was further followed by lecture 3 by Dr.Shivkumar, Associate Professor, Dept. of Pharmacology on the topic ‘Oncology Pharmacy’. At the end of the event the collage participants were acknowledged with the issue of certificates of appreciation by the teaching staff of the college. The programme was anchored by Dr. Merin Alias Arthungal, Pharm D Intern. The Seminar was organised by Pharm D interns under the guidance of Mr.Binu KM, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Pharmacy Practice and Mr.SurfrazMd, Associate professor, Dept. of Pharmaceutics. Thanks to the organising committee for their encouragement and support. The seminar was a great success with the wholeheartedly participation of the staff and the students which made the programme a memorable one.
