General Ledger Accountant/Payroll Coordinator

The Out-of-Door Academy is a coeducational, college preparatory, independent day school serving over 750 students from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade in Sarasota, Florida. The Out-of-Door Academy currently has an opening for a General Ledger Accountant/Payroll Coordinator. This is a full-time administrative support position reporting to the Chief Financial Officer starting July 1, 2017. This position will be responsible for daily accounting functions, including coordinating and assisting in the preparation of financial reports, budgeting and the annual audit as well as the semi-monthly payroll processing for 130+ employees.

The School seeks a strategic thinker with excellent financial skills. The ideal candidate will be well-organized, detail-oriented, responsible, friendly and able to work both independently and in conjunction with various departments and constituencies. Comprehensive accounting experience in a not-for-profit environment is required. Previous required experience includes general ledger management, monthly and annual general ledger closings, cash receipts and reconciliations, preparation and analysis of financial statements, fixed asset management, interaction with accounts payable and accounts receivable, and payroll processing for a large employer. Proven experience with the Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps as well as prior database management experience is required. Experience with the Blackbaud products, Financial Edge or Financial Edge NXT, would be a plus.

The ideal candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and/or a CPA license. Minimally, the candidate should have five years of experience, preferably in a not-for profit environment; independent school experience would be a plus. Excellent communication skills, a solid understanding of accounting principles, strong organizational and analytical skills, a strong understanding of confidentiality, and a positive disposition with high energy and strong work ethic would be key factors under consideration for this position.
