Members Reappointed to Ayrshire and Arran NHS Board
The Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport today announced the reappointment of Lesley Bowie and Robert Martin as Members of the Ayrshire and Arran NHS Board.
MEMBERS
Lesley Bowie has more than 30 years of experience in the IT industry. Her most recent role was within Hewlett Packard Ltd where she was responsible for Strategy and Business Operations within the Global Support Delivery organisation. She brings managerial, operational and client engagement skills to the Board as well as expertise in budgeting, supply chain operations, programme management and change management.
Robert Martin worked as a Senior Engineer and business leader with ICI and his most recent role was to manage the design and construction of a number of large manufacturing facilities on a global basis. On leaving ICI he joined ABB and established and managed an engineering services division based in Scotland. The division specialised in providing legislative compliance audits and advice, process engineering design and construction for the pharmaceutical, fine chemical and drinks sectors. Robert has been a non-executive director with NHS Ayrshire and Arran since November 2013, where he attends Board meetings and various governance meetings and is chair of the Performance Governance Committee. His skills include governance and scrutiny, contract and project management, financial management, communications and networking.
REAPPOINTMENT
The reappointments will be for four years and will run from 1 November 2017 to 31 October 2021.
The reappointments are regulated by the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland.
REMUNERATION
The reappointments are part-time and attract a remuneration of £8,169 for a time commitment of one day per week.
OTHER MINISTERIAL APPOINTMENTS
Mrs Bowie and Mr Martin do not hold any other ministerial public appointments.
POLITICAL ACTIVITY
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.
Mrs Bowie and Mr Martin have had no political activity in the last 5 years.
BACKGROUND
NHS Ayrshire & Arran is responsible for meeting the health needs of around 400,000 people living in the area, and provides a comprehensive range of primary, community-based and acute hospital services for the population.
