Mearns Primary PTA Newsletter March 2012

After some two years of talks the PTA are absolutely delighted to inform parents that we have made some progress with our playground project!

An amicable conclusion has now been reached with SGP Property & Facilities Management, which will allow the PTA to make the much needed revamp to the children’s playground.

Picnic Benches

6 small benches to be installed in front of the nursery/P1 wing with 4 adult size benches at end of P6/7 wing. These will provide both outside seating areas for pupils and also outdoor teaching space. The purchase and installation costs of these benches will be met by the PTA and amass to £2, 971.

SGP are to programme manage the installation of the benches, hopefully they will be in the playground soon.

Traverse Walls

Following SGP consent for the installation of 3 traverse walls the PTA submitted an application for a BIG Lottery Grant.

The request will take approx. 1 month to be considered. If successful the grant will provide £2k towards the walls. If unsuccessful then the PTA will pay full costs of approx. £2,750

Playground Markings

The PTA are currently waiting for an awards for all grant to be considered, this decision will be made within the next month. If successful the grant will pay the full £7k for the work to be completed, if unsuccessful the PTA will again pay in full utilising existing money and projected profit from the end of year disco and the summer fayre.

Cycle Racks

Additional cycle racks have already started to be installed into the playground, it is hoped that these additional racks will encourage a few more children to cycle to school.
