Program Office Staff

The Circuit 3 & 8 SAMH Program Office contracts for mental health and substance abuse services, provides technical assistance, and monitors services. Circuit 3 & 8 SAMH staff also participate as community partners with the Courts, Child Welfare, Guardian Ad Litem, the Schools, and other stakeholders to improve the mental health and substance abuse system of care in the Circuit 3 & 8 service area.

Forensic – The Forensic Case Manager maintains a small caseload consisting of incompetent-to-proceed to trial (ITP) clients in forensic and civil hospitals. Communication is maintained with the hospital treatment teams and legal system. Assists with discharge planning. Goal: to restore clients to competency in order to proceed through the legal system while in the community, or, while being treated in a state hospital. Also, monitors, medicates and maintains clients who have been adjudicated not guilty by reason of insanity (NGRI). / MBH / 4303 SW 13th Street

Crisis Stabilization / The Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) offers examination and treatment for adults and children in an acute psychiatric crisis. The Baker Act, Chapter 394, Part I, Florida Statutes, allows detention of persons meeting the criteria. The person must have a mental illness and there must be a substantial likelihood that the person poses a threat to him or herself or that the person will cause bodily harm to others. This CSU serves an thirteen (13) county area and has a 22 bed capacity for adults and children. Additional CSU beds are available in Columbia County. / MBH / 4300 SW 13th Street

Emergency Services Information and Referral – Access Center / The Access Center is a centralized assessment, authorization, information, referral and triage system designed to allow clients ease of access to the most clinically appropriate and cost effective treatment services available. Florida Assertive Community Treatment
(FACT) / The FACT team is a self-contained multidisciplinary team comprised of 10 clinicians, a psychiatrist and administrative support staff. This team manages the most seriously mentally ill clients in the community. Twenty-five percent (25%) of the current clients were enrolled in the FACT program directly from the state hospital. Homeless Enrichment Liaison Program (HELP) / HELP conducts outreach services to assist homeless individuals in obtaining mental health and substance abuse services. HUD HOPE / The HOPE program is a HUD funded transitional housing program that provides supportive services to individuals and families that suffer mental illness and are homeless. Services and housing support transition from homelessness to independent living by providing necessary services and supports aimed at improving the individual’s ability to function independently. Intervention (Continued) / Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) services are provided to clients and their families to ensure family stability and economic self-sufficiency. These services assist the client in addressing their mental health and/or substance abuse issues in pursuit of self-sufficiency. Short-term Residential Treatment (SRT) program / When the rapid stabilization services provided by the CSU or through Shands at Vista are not sufficient for a client, this 10-bed program will provide additional placement and stabilization services consisting of medication and rehabilitation with an intensive, comprehensive treatment program to facilitate maximum independence. Job Coach / The Job Coach develops and implements a treatment plan based on an assessment of the client.
