Job Description

Role Title: Mental Health Group Facilitator

(3 month contract January to March 2017 with a further year pending funding)

Salary:£14,430 pro rata (8.5 hours contract)

Responsible To: Executive Directors

Location: MVA Building, Chatham travelling to Gravesend

Purpose of the Role:

This role is to facilitate groups, working face-to-face with people who have or have had mental health issues, supporting existing volunteers, engaging service users and encouraging and empowering people to feed back their views and experiences of services, representing the service user voice at various meetings and events, signposting and offering support and collating statistical information.

Main Activities/Tasks:

  • Facilitate fortnightly Service User Forum and Social Groups in Gravesend– participate in groups and meetings and engage members in discussions and activities
  • Facilitateweekly Personality Disorder Peer Support Groups in Gravesend.
  • Set up the meeting room and refreshments and clear away after the groups
  • Ensure group attendees are signed up as members – if required, support individuals to complete a Membership Pack
  • Ensure a Sign In sheet is completed and take notes of the group including any Action Points
  • To feedback service users’ views and follow up responses from service providers
  • To signpost and support people to relevant organisations and activities
  • To complete group administration includingbooking in guest speakers, researching useful information and websites to share with service users
  • To debrief with staff and volunteers about the groups and any issues or concerns
  • Promote MEGAN CIC services to existing and potential new members and service providers which can include attending events
  • To attend monthly staff meetings
  • To attend external meetings, when necessary

Training Provision:

The employee will have the opportunity to access facilitated workshops within the organisation. Additional training needs will be assessed and training may be provided dependant on funding.

Hours of Work:

The employee will be required to workeight hours per week – hours to be arranged.

Education and Training /
  • None, as training will be provided in line with job role

Skills and Knowledge /
  • Have a good knowledge and understanding of Mental Health
  • Have clear understanding of Confidentiality and Data Protection
  • Have clear understanding of Equality and Diversity

  • Have some knowledge of local areas ( DGS) and the services available
  • Knowledge of IT (use of laptop, projector and internet)
  • Have understanding of Adult Protection (training can be provided)

Experience /
  • Have personal experience of or have worked with people with mental health issues
