GATHERING

PRELUDE: “They’ll Know We Are Christians” by Lani Smith

*INTROIT:MV# 22 - God of All the World

LIFE AND WORK OF THE CHURCH:

PASTORAL CALL TO WORSHIP:

Our lives are not ours to be lived simply for our advantage and pleasure.

CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE:

Therefore we are to ask: to what am I being called; where am I being led; and how does the Spirit expect me to use my time, treasure and talent to fulfill God’s purpose.

*HYMN: Jesus Loves the Little Children & He’s Got the Whole World

UNISON AFFIRMATION: There is a Way (Proverbs 14 & 16)

All one’s ways may be pure in one’s own eyes, but GOD weighs the spirit.

All those who are arrogant are an abomination. Be assured, they will not go unpunished.

Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall.

A perverse person spreads strife, and a whisperer separates close friends.

The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, so that one may avoid the snares of death.

All one’s ways may be pure in one’s own eyes; yet sometimes, there is a way that seems to be right, but in the end it is the way to death.

LIFE AND WORK OF THE CHURCH

Welcome! Settle in, breathe in the Spirit, relax. The nursery is open, and there is a changing table in the women’s washroom. There are audio enhancers available to assist in better hearing. If you are having a birthday, we would love for you to let us know so we can celebrate it with you. If you wish, come forward and put some coins in our Birthday Church. Please sign your name in the brown pad found in your pew, and let us know you were here. Please join us in the lounge following worship for coffee and conversation.

Today’s bulletins are sponsored in loving memory of

Robert & Gary Hay

by wife and mother, Maxine.

Big Thanks! to our Sunday School teachers and the parents who make sure that church participation is a part of their children’s lives. Enjoy Summer!!!

The Christian Education Committee will be gathering family contact information so everyone can be invited to a mid-summer picnic and swim planned at the Milltown Pool. Please see the CE member in the narthex to be sure you are included.

Hebrews 4: 12-13: the (Spirit of Truth) is quick and powerful. Sharper than any two-edged sword. Piercing until it divides soul from spirit. Penetrating to the attitudes of the heart and judging the thoughts of each one of us here this morning. Nothing in all creation is hidden from the Spirit of Truth. Before the eye of the One to whom we must give account, everything is laid bare.

Galations 6: 2-4, 7-10: Help carry one another`s burdens, and in this way you will obey the law of Christ. If you think you are something when you really are nothing, you are only deceiving yourself. You should each judge your own conduct. If it is good, then you can be proud of what you yourself have done, without having to compare it with what someone else has done … Do not deceive yourselves; no one makes a fool of God. You will reap exactly what you plant … So let us not become tired of doing good; for if we do not give up, the time will come when we will reap the harvest. So then, as often as we have the chance, we should do goodto everyone, and especially to those who belong to our family in the faith.

Philipians 2: 1-4: If then there is any encouragement in Christ, any consolation from love, any sharing in the Spirit, any compassion and sympathy, make my joy complete: be of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others. 4:2-3: I urge Euodia and I urge Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord. Yes, and I ask you also, my loyal companion, help these women, for they have struggled beside me in the work of the gospel …

James 3:13-18: Who is wise and understanding among you? Show by your good life that your works are done with gentleness born of wisdom. But if you have bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not be boastful and false to the truth. Such wisdom does not come down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, devilish. For where there is envy and selfish ambition, there will also be disorder and wickedness of every kind. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without a trace of partiality or hypocrisy. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace for those who make peace.
