ACTIVITIES

  • Congratulations to Andrew Buik (S1) who has been using his talents for the good of others by volunteering in his local community. St Angela’s Participation Centre in Darnley was set up 3 years ago with the aim of ensuring that every young person in the community had the opportunity to participate in free sports. A further aim was to involve young people in running the group giving them a stake in the local community and developing a culture of belonging. Andrew helps out with badminton and football coaching of younger pupils every Saturday morning and on Tuesday evenings as well. He also sits on the St Angela’s Participation Committee and recently attended a youth workshop to help him become a better committee member. Well done, Andrew!
  • Eva Pryce (S2), Scarlett Morris (S2) and HumzahRazzaq(S2) - our finalists in the individual speaker competition - will now be working as a dream team!

Judges at their recent Rotary competition contacted the school to say:

“We were delighted with the very high performance of your pupils at the Schools Public Speaking Competition which was held in November and we would very much like you to represent The Rotary Club of Glasgow at this year's Youth Speaks! Team event.

The District Intermediate final will take place in Pollokshaws Burgh Hallson Sunday 15th January 2017 at 1.00pmprompt.” Supporters are most welcome.

CHARITIES

  • During Advent, pupils in S1 have been raising money and donating Christmas gifts for the St Aloysius’ Church ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Group. This group is run by volunteers and provides English classes for refugees and asylum seekers across the Glasgow area. The group runs classes for two hours every morning in the Church and there are currently 67 students. Learning English is a vital skill as they endeavour to make a new life here in Scotland.

Father Curtis set S1 the challenge of raising funds to provide an end of term Christmas party for the students and to give a Christmas gift to each of the children who were attending the party. To date, a sum of £350 has been raised through activities such as a hot chocolate morning, sponsored silence and bake sales.

They have also managed to secure donations of three second-hand bicycles which will be refurbished and given to students who otherwise would not have the means or transport to get to their lessons. Thank you S1 for the difference that you are making in our community!

  • On behalf of Mrs Piggot and the S4 Form Tutors we would like to thank everyone for supporting our Advent fundraising efforts for the Over the Wall charity. To date we have raised £843.88 which means we are more than half way in trying to reach our target of £1500. Thank you to you all for your generosity during the festive season!
  • Congratulations to Scarlett Morris (S2) who made a tremendous personal effort during an appeal at St Aloysius Church during the last weekend in November. Her extra appeal was the cause for an extra collection at Mass and the total raised was a fantastic £1764.17! Well done Scarlett, that money will help Mary’s Meal so very much!!!
