Introductory Photography Syllabus 2013 - 2014

Course Description
This course is designed to provide students with an introduction to photography both film and digital. One marking period will concentrate on film photography, and the other on digital photography. During the film photography section students will learn about types of cameras, composition, lighting along with the processes required to process and develop film. During the digital photography section students will learn about composition, downloading photo’s and using Photoshop to digitally enhance the photos.

Student Requirements:
- Students should ask family and friends to borrow a 35mm film camera preferably a SLR or manual type camera. Some are available to sign out with the understanding that any damage will result in an obligation for the replacement cost.
- Students must use their own digital camera and flash drive (4gig).
- A hardcover 3 ring binder with pen or pencil to store notes and photographs.
- $20.00 to purchase 3 rolls of film, photo paper and negative sleeves.
- Payment is preferred in cash or check made out to Mr. Rugarber.
Student Expectations:
Students will not have any electronic devices in the darkroom.
Students will respect the classroom, its materials and the materials of others in the class.
Students will take pictures after school and on the weekends.
No camera shall leave the classroom unless signed out first.
Camera’s shall be returned after two days, NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
Students will keep all photo’s and negatives for the final portfolio project.
Students will have their own digital camera and flash drive (4 gig).
Student Responsibility:
If you do not have your own 35mm film camera, you may borrow one from the school. When you sign out and take one of these camera’s you become fully responsible for that camera. Should any damage or theft occur to the camera while in your possession, you will be held financially responsible for that item. We have a few digital cameras that may also be signed out and again you will assume full responsibility for that camera.
Students must also take care of their photo paper and the film. If the paper is exposed to light, you will need to purchase more paper in order to complete your assignments. If students ruin film or need more than the 3 supplied, they will purchase it at a cost of $2.50 a roll.
