Mrs. Duffy’s Homework Policy
6th Grade (Mathematics)
Why I Assign Homework: Homework is important because it is a valuable aid in helping students make the most of their experience in school. Homework is useful in reinforcing what has been learned in class, prepares students for upcoming lessons, teaches responsibility, and helps students develop positive study habits.
When I Assign Homework: Homework may be assigned Monday through Thursday nights. Spiral Reviews are assigned on Friday. Students will receive plenty of notice before all tests and projects. Homework assignments may be graded with or without notice.
Students’ Homework Responsibilities: Students are expected to put forth their best effort on their homework. Assignments should be completed thoroughly and neatly. Students are expected and encouraged to complete all work independently; class notes or my website are good resources. If a student does not understand a topic taught during class, they are encouraged to stay after school to get extra help with their homework. All assignments should be completed on time. Students will be expected to make up missed work within a timely fashion.
Teacher’s Homework Responsibilities: Homework will either be collected or reviewed in class. Students are responsible for reading feedback and making appropriate changes necessary for growth. Homework will occasionally be collected and graded.
Parents’/Guardians’ Homework Responsibilities: Parents/Guardians play an important role in making homework a positive experience for their children. Therefore, I ask that homework be a top priority: provide necessary supplies and a quiet homework environment, set a daily homework time, provide praise and support, do not let children avoid homework and contact me if they notice a problem.
If Students Do Not Complete Homework: If a student chooses not to complete the homework, I will speak with that student to make sure they understand the assignment. If extra help is needed, students are expected to attend Extra Help. The students’ grades will be negatively affected if homework assignments are not completed.
