4450 MATTERS ARISING from the Minutes
a) 082BL North & South Clifton St George [Grade II* - 13th Century]
Architect: Mr G W Smith Local Authority: Newark & Sherwood
Restoration & Conservation to East Wall Paintings - AA 28/2/2017
1 To continue the restoration and conservation to the Chancel wall paintings from the apex to the bottom of the window arch
2 Gentle clean with soft brushes and where possible with de-ionised water, in a candy floss motion to remove as much dirt and cobweb as possible without further damage to the surface
3 Consolidate through Japanese paper when necessary, using Plextol B500. Lay any curling flakes with a spatula, heated if necessary.
4 Surface residue will be removed with water and/or acetone. Allow to dry.
5 Infill large areas of paint loss with light tone grey pigment such as davies grey, perhaps with some whiting added and bound in B72.
6 Re-introduce decoration to loss using matched pigment colour bound in malt vinegar
7 Fix areas of loss with B72 20%. Allow to dry. Matt; Re-oil gild loss where necessary
8 Application of a thin coat of 'B72' (3-5% by volume in white sprit) clear varnish to help revive, refresh and protect the whole.
9 The small canvas will be cleaned with 'Synperonic N' in de-ionised water, neutralised, allowed to dry and protected with a B72 barrier prior to colour/gilding restoration as above
10 All in accordance with specification and quotation dated 9 February 2017 from Michelle Pepper and photographs supplied
Deferred. The DAC to provide the parish with help finding a conservator to produce a conservation assessment for this important work.
b) 208BX Thurgarton St Peter [Grade I - 13th Century]

Conservation of Painting and Plaque - AA 5/6/2017
1 To undertake a conservation clean and restoration of the framed painting The Holy Family and metal memorial plaque
2 Examination to determine the condition of the canvas, paint and ground layers
3 Consolidation of all lifting and flaking areas of paint and ground
4 Cleaning tests to establish correct solvents for dirt and varnish removal
5 Removal of all dirt, varnish and efflorescence, cleaning residues and debris from lower stretch bar
6 Restoration of planar alignment to all areas of deformation of the canvas
7 Application of an isolating varnish of Paraloid B72; Filling and touching of all paint losses
8 Application of protective layer of MS2A
9 Frame: removal of all surface dust and dirt to gilding; replacement of missing mouldings, gilded to match the original
10 All in accordance with Condition Report and Specification dated September 2017 from Dian Hall

Servery Unit, New Heaters, Pew Removals and New Chairs - AA 22/8/2017
1 To update the heaters, to move the exterior door from the inner porch to the outer porch and install a new glazed panel door, to remove pews and replace with chairs to the north aisle and install a servery unit at the west end of the north aisle
2 Preparatory work: remove stored items in north aisle; protect all monuments, stone flooring and windows
3 Remove 4no non fixed pews and one non-fixed pew from left hand side of the centre aisle; all to be retained to use for doors to the servery if at all possible or architectural salvage/sale; 2 of the North Aisle pews to be moved adjacent to the North wall
4 Carefully core drill hole through base of north aisle masonry at low level directly behind new sink location to allow for drainage and plumbing
5 Drainage: provide greywater drainage connection through north aisle wall to meet building regs part H; connect to existing external outlet gulley at min 75mm below tower floor level; any excavation work to be subject to an archaeological watching brief
6 Excavate cold water supply trench from existing connection to east of main entrance gate inside boundary wall, along pathways and around Tower to north side; trench to run alongside or within existing tarmac to minimise disturbance of burials; trench to be a min depth of 750mm
7 Carpentry: provide new freestanding servery unit with sink as per drawing; to allow for easy glide drawer hardware and cabinet handles in black finish
8 Finishes & Decoration: all cabinets to be in recycled wood from the pews or to match existing woodwork/ in limed oak finish
9 Mechanical Services: provide new insulated cold water supply to run in excavated trenching from south gate to outside north aisle; internal cold water supply to be 13mm copper piping, treated with Encralac against corrosion
10 Provide new stainless steel sink with lever type tap, to kitchen unit with drainage piping to be made through cored wall to exterior; allow for instant 15l hot water heater under kitchen sink
11 Electrics: provide power to new kitchen unit as required, assuming alterations and extension of existing supply to include min 2no double, switched pop-up sockets into worktop surface
12 Heating: to install 4no 3kw infrared halogen heaters to the aisles, centre aisle and bell tower; a 6kw over door heater into the church, 0.5kw pew heater for the organist and 2 no infrared heaters in chancel covering the altar area and another to the lectern
13 New chairs to be the Faith Chair that can be linked to form bench seating; all with under rail storage; fabric colour to be 'nightshade'
14 All in accordance with specification and drawings ASE1/PRO1 & SP01 from Mr J Keays, Church Architect; quotations dated 6 March 2017 & 21 July 2017 and details of heaters supplied from Elston Electrical Services Ltd, Elston, Newark, Notts and Statements of Significance and Need dated 19 August 2017 and chair details from Rosehill.co.uk, Handforth, Cheshire

1 To undertake gilding work to ten Angel Corbels in the Nave timber roof
2 To remove surface dust and dirt and prepare surfaces for decoration

4 Apply an oil based ochre base coat
5 Apply long drying linseed oil gold size; gild with genuine gold leaf
6 Skew off to a fine lustre

Installation of New Organ and Choir Stall Alterations - AA 24/8/2017
1 Installation of new electronic organ and associated electrical works and modification and alterations to choir stall to accommodate new organ
2 To install new Rodgers Infinity Model 243MV electronic organ in south east side of the Chancel with associated amplifier speakers and wiring
3 Make necessary minimum alterations to choir stalls in south east of Chancel to allow organ to be installed
4 Remove frontispiece of stalls (the Prie Dieu) and place in storage within the church
5 Remove middle bench and reinstall against north wall in north east corner of sanctuary, to act as a seat for servers
6 Hinge the bench in the rear stall to allow the seat to be lifted; provide means of holding bench in upright position
7 Install necessary mains electrical supply points in the south east Chancel and the tower gallery
8 Remove and dispose of the existing Makin electronic organ, faux organ pipes, framing and doors and Nave speaker

3 Fit boiler and pipework in kitchen area at back of the church
4 Fit main boiler tanks and pipework in Vestry area
5 Fit main pipework to main church area, vestries and Chancel
6 Connection to national grid for the gas; trench to be excavated to a depth of 425mm and between 200-300mm wide
7 Bottom of trench muct be level and free from sharp stone and materials; for ground with sharp stone excavate a further 3" and fill this space with fine material (sand or stone dust) to lay the new pipe on; excavated soil to be 300mm away from the side of the trench
8 Backfill and reinstatements include restoration of the trench and any associated surfaces
9 During the backfill process, install 'Gas Pipe Below' warning tape installed a min of 75mm above the crown of the gas service tape; hand ram any backfill material until the depth of cover is achieved
10 Boiler for the kitchen area to be a 30Kw Baxi main combination boiler with flue clock and filling loop
11 Boiler for the main church area to be floor standing and positioned within the entrance toilet block; boiler to be a 60kw Ideal Instinct heat only boiler with flue
12 Supply and fix 14 double panel radiators; fit one double panel radiator within the entrance hall area; clean, adapt and refit three cast iron column radiators, one in the nursery, one in the office and one in the spare room

Window Repair and Porch Gates 10/9/2017
1 To undertake a repair to a vandalised stained glass window and replacement gates to the south porch
2 Repairs to south west nave window: to remove the existing fragments, inspect all areas around the window for shards and gather up
3 Insert a matching replacement to the small amber damage and a pane of frosted glass to the larger pane, as a temproary infill
4 View the fragments on the light box at the studio, assemble the composition and re-use all the original glass
5 Paint new infill to match the missing areas and edge bond to the original fragments with thin copper foil lines or Silcoset 153; edge bond all original fragments with Silcoset 153; back plate the figurative pane with 2mm clear float (kiln fired) and seal around the edge with Silcoset 153
6 Reinstall this pane to the lead matrix; all newly painted infills to be initialised MDS and dated 2017
7 Take a photographic record before , during and after conservation and produce a minor conservation report on completion of the repair
8 Porch Gates: working to a submitted design, forge and create a pair of gates, to be hinged left and right, with a drop bolt and encased working lock
9 Gates to have a 40mm x 20mm frame; 40mm x 12mm horizontal rails with hot punched and rivetted detail; 16mm x 6mm spike detail and 16mm solid square vertical bars
10 Finish in hot dipped zinc (galvanised), a coat of primer and a top coat of paint
