Florence K-8 August 2012 Board Report Summary

We are glad to be back. We had an extremely good turnout for both our Kinder and 1st through 8th Meet the Teacher nights. I have 3 new teachers on the staff therefore everyone has a pretty good idea of how school should run. It is currently running smoothly.

Our TAP introduction has gone well. My team is comprised of Jill Gammill, Master Teacher; Marla Nelson and Kim Schultz as the Mentor Teachers. They are doing a good job of introducing the rubric and communicating expectations as well as being a support for the staff.

We are still in need of an Orchestra teacher. We have a substitute in until we hire someone but are continuing on with Parent Rental night being July 30th.

Our PTO has already done popcorn & pickles Friday with our first meeting on July 31st at 5:30.

Half day kindergarten and full day kindergarten have started without a hitch. We currently have about an even split of each with 45 full day and 44 half day kinders.

Athletics are beginning and we have over 40 boys and 40 girls trying out for teams. We certainly can’t expect to match our winning of 9 championships last year but we will do our best. Our ultimate goal is that the kids have a good experience and that they improve.

We will be involved in the SEAS math grant. This is a very similar grant as our ASAMA grant from the previous 2 years. It is specifically designed to work on teacher instruction strategies at the 3rd through 5th grades. We are very happy to be involved. A team of 5 teachers and me review data and strategies of our staff. We go to 4 Friday /Saturday 2 day conferences throughout the year and bring back strategies for our staff. We are pleased that we were selected for this 2 year grant.

Like I said we have started well and will work towards analyzing our AIMS data to develop strategies to attack our weaknesses and continue improvement.
