JOB DESCRIPTION - HOUSEKEEPER

  1. Key responsibilities for the post

The following duties are to be carried out under the supervision of the Pastoral Leaders.

(a)Cleaning Duties

(i)General cleaning, dusting, polishing and vacuuming of all floors, skirting boards, window sills and ledges, pipes, furniture etc. in the day rooms, dormitories, pupil and house studies, passages, lobbies etc.

(ii)Cleaning and disinfecting thoroughly the bathhouses, showers and night toilets, also toilet floors and locker room floors. All shower floors, gullies and shower mats to be scrubbed at least once a week and mopped on all other days. Clean all baths, washbasins, taps and mirrors.

(iii)Clean all outside steps of the boarding house at least once a week.

(iv)General cleaning of office and bathroom.

(v)During the school holidays a spring cleaning of the whole boarding house must be carried out under the direction of the Pastoral Manager.

(vi)Prepare and clean Deputy/Assistant Housemaster’s/Housemistress’s room as required.

(vii)Housemaster/Housemistress Quarter – The attached duties to be carried out as required and up to a maximum of 1 hour per working day (or 5 hours per week) if time permits.

(b)Housekeeper’s are members of the Boarding House Pastoral Team and are expected to play a full role in the general welfare of the pupils and attend and contribute to house meetings when required. They must be prepared to assist the Pastoral Leaders in her duties, within the time available to them. This could include assistance with laundry, answering the telephone, taking messages, issuing sanatorium chits or any other duties where assistance may be required. In the absence of the Pastoral Leaders the Housekeeper will be required to deputise for the Pastoral Leaders and be responsible for the supervision of the Boarding House.

(c) Housekeepers must be prepared to assist in other boarding houses in the event of unavoidable absence of Housekeeper’s (within normal working time). In the event of long term absences, management will endeavour to make alternative arrangements.

  1. The Housekeeper should therefore be aware that, after consultation, changes to the job description may be necessary.
  1. Performance management will be carried out by the Housemasters/mistress.

Housemaster/HousemistressQuarters

The following duties to be carried out as required and up to a max of 1 hr per day or 5 hours per week if time permits:General cleaning, vacuuming, dusting and polishing in the following areas: Lounge; Dining Room; Hall and Staircase; Passages; Kitchen and Utility Room; Downstairs toilet to be cleaned and disinfected daily; Any reasonable request for cleaning within the time allotted (excluding cleaning of cookers and Cupboards, and shampooing of carpets).
