Title of Job: Senior Operations Manager

Salary:HAWC Grade 38 - £ 35,340 incl. ILW

Hours of Work:35 Hours

Reports to: Director

AMain Purpose of the Role

The Senior Operations Manager role is to direct, administer and coordinate the internal operational activities of Hopscotch in accordance with Hopscotch’s strategy and implementation plan. Overall the manager will lead all internal operations and be responsible for the governance framework that optimises the opportunities for Hopscotch to achieve its strategic objectives.

The Senior Operations Manageris responsible for ensuring organisational effectiveness by providing leadership for the staff team. The post holder is required to work with the staff team, and contribute to the development and implementation of organisational strategies, policies and practices.

BKey Responsibilities

  1. Lead the performance management process that measures and evaluates progress of Hopscotch against goals for the organisation.
  2. Provide staff with a strong day-to-day management presence.
  3. Implement, maintain and manage an effective system of controls throughout Hopscotch covering non-financial controls.
  4. Implement effective succession planning, people management, development, recruitment, and retention strategies.
  5. Supervise Team Leaders and other staff as required.
  6. Take the lead on Health and Social Care services and activities and represent the organisation accordingly, in external partnerships and forums
  7. Deputise on behalf of the Director when required

CResponsibilities by Function
Management of Staff and Services

  1. Direct and support the work of Team Leadersand otherrelevant staff through regular individual supervision and team meetings; and monitor and review performance to ensure priorities andtargets are achieved
  2. Develop and implement systems for effective team building, communication and regular sharing of good practice and joint planning
  3. Undertake probationary and annual staff appraisals to review work performance and to identify staff training and development needs
  4. Recruit and induct new staff as required in line with Hopscotch’s recruitment policy and procedures
  5. Take specific responsibilities for contractual relations with partners including Camden Council
  6. Represent Hopscotch at monitoring meetings with funders and commissioners of specific projects and services

Organisational Effectiveness

  1. Actively look for ways improvements can be made to the internal functions of Hopscotch, define benefits of making changes and implement.
  2. Carry out the administrative function for the Board which includes minute taking, preparation of agenda, timely circulation of papers etc.
  3. Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and commitment to quality.
  4. Ensure the activities of the charity comply with legal requirements and good practice, keeping up to date with change applicable to Hopscotch, e.g. Data Protection

Business Development

  1. Take the lead on Health and Social Care services and activities and represent the organisation accordingly, in external partnerships and forums
  2. Oversee the Homecare service, including marketing and business development opportunities
  3. Contribute to short and long-term organisational planning and strategy.
  4. Support the Director to develop funding applications, collating information and financial costings.

Risk Management

  1. Contribute to development and management of the Risk Register, ensuring Hopscotch is protected against risks
  2. Implement and assist in the development, review and maintenance of policies.
  3. Ensure statutory compliance with Safeguarding, Health and Safety legislation, conducting risk assessments, monitoring performance and reviewing procedures.

DGeneral Responsibilities

  1. To participate in his/her own appraisal with the Director.
  2. To contribute through Hopscotch team meetings, training and outreach/events to the development of Hopscotch services
  3. Represent Hopscotch externally to key organisations. Attend conferences and events as appropriate and represent Hopscotch at meetings and networks.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

CRITERIA
Qualifications / Relevant degree or equivalent qualification
Qualification in Social Work would be desirable
Evidence of wide ranging continued professional development
Experience / Experience of general management and thorough understanding of finance systems and human resources
At least 4 years’ senior management experience in a social health care or voluntary sector setting.
Experience of fundraising and tendering for contracts
Experience of leading, developing and managing teams and services to achieve high quality outcomes
Experience of working in partnership with professionals, partners and funders
Experience in budgeting and fiscal management
Proven ability in managing internal activities efficiently such as human resources function including personnel, remuneration, and recruiting
Track record in achieving quality and data-driven evaluation.
Knowledge / Knowledge and understanding of the Health and Social Care sector, with a specialist focus on Adult Social Care.
An understanding of the political, social and economic environment that the Asian community experience
Knowledge and understanding of the benefits of partnership arrangements and working with other sectors.
Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures, including recruitment, disciplinary and performance management procedures
Skills & Abilities / Proven ability to effectively build the organisation and manage staff capacity, developing a top-notch workforce and the processes that ensure the organisation runs smoothly
Ability to interact sensitively with individuals from a range of diverse backgrounds and to work professionally to safeguard the work of Hopscotch
Able to represent, promote and advocate the work of Hopscotch with key stakeholders including service users and the wider community
Excellent written communication skills, including an ability to write high quality reports
Ability to work within good practice guidelines
Ability to monitor and evaluate the work of staff and projects
Ability to work on own initiative and be proactive and the ability to manage and prioritise an unpredictable workload under pressure.
