Formal Observations shall last at least 45 minutes or an entire class period.

Abbreviated Observations must be for a minimum of 20 minutes in one sitting.

General Information

  • Training is required for all staff on the NC Teacher Evaluation Process. This requires review of the booklet.
  • Orientation includes sharing the rubric for evaluation with is on the website under HR and teacher evaluation as well as the State Board Policy. It also includes a schedule for completing the observations which should be provided by the principal. Plan to do orientation with late hires within 2 weeks of starting work.
  • Additional observations with coaching should be completed on staff having difficulty.
  • Principals should run reports for a check in after each due date.
  • Allow 20 working days between each observation.
  • Notify HR of any teachers experiencing difficulty by Thanksgiving break on Nov. 20.
  • Notify HR of any teachers who will be non-renewed by April 1.
  • Send names of no-renewals with supporting documents by May 8th to Dr. Armstrong and the superintendent
