L15 / Ana Kirkland / "Relationships" is an original painting by Ana Kirkland. The overlapping vessels symbolize the people that we meet during our life and have made an impact on us. The impact is symbolized by the mixing of the colors. We all start out with a primary color. When a vessel has a blue primary color and overlaps with a yellow primary color, the overlapping part will mix into a green color. The vessel retains its shape, however will be affected by the impact of the other vessel's color. The painting does not judge whether the impact of the other person is positive or negative. I see it as neutral because in the long run, all effects from other people shape us as a person and it is up to us to learn out of relationships with people and not up to us to judge an effect as positive or negative. Time can only tell if we learned out of an effect or if we ignored it, but the impact will always be there whether it was intentional or "just happened."
