Dear Students,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to math class. Hopefully, you had a wonderful summer and are now ready to have a successful school year. We will be using SpringBoard Mathematicsas one of our resources this year. It isa student-centered instructional program based on the Common Core State Standards for Math. I hope that we will all enjoy the learning experiences that this school year has to offer. The following is an outline of procedures that will be followed in math class to help us have a great year:

I.Rules and Expectations

BE RESPECTFUL

  1. One person talks at a time.
  2. Treat others the way you would like to be treated.
  3. Be respectful of other’s property.
  4. Keep the classroom clean.
  5. Raise your hand to be called on.
  6. Use appropriate “classroom” language.

BE ORGANIZED

  1. Follow directions the FIRST TIME they are given.
  2. Be in your seat…prepared with your supplies…working on the DO NOW when the bell rings.
  3. Pay attention and stay on task.

BE ACCEPTING

1.Be kind to everyone.

2.Accept consequences for your actions.

3.Honor your peers’ thoughts and ideas.

BE RESPONSIBLE

1.Make good decisions and be appropriate.

2.Ask for help when needed.

3. Complete your homework and bring it to class every day.

  1. Be responsible for your work. Don’t copy from others.

II.Supplies

You are expected to come to class prepared with the following supplies:

  1. Binder with math section and loose leaf
  2. 2-3 Sharpened pencils
  3. School planner

(preferably TI 30X IIS shown below)

III.Grading Policies

DAILY HOMEWORK(20%) – Homework will be assigned every day in class and will be checked the following day. Homework should be completed on loose-leaf paper, in pencil, and with all work shown. For each homework assignment that is not completed or brought to class, you will lose 4 points. If you are absent from school, the assignment will be checked the day you return to class. Homework assignments submitted up to one day late will receive half credit.

ASSESSMENTS (65%)

  • Tests – Students will be given a test at the end of every unit. You will be aware of when these tests are scheduled. Each test will be worth 100 points. If you miss a test for any reason youmust see Mrs. Hollingsworth to schedule a time for the test to be made up.
  • Quizzes– You will be given at least one quiza week to see how you are progressing and whether a topic needs to be reviewed. Any student who misses a quiz has one week to make it up before it counts as zero.

POW’s and Other Graded Assignments (15%)–There will be assessment problems given throughout the marking period (Problems of the Week (POW’s), embedded assessments, check points, etc).
