Course Title: One Leg of the Stool: The Sacred Scriptures: The Old Testament in a Pastoral Context

Instructor/Tutor The Rev. Canon Dr. David Zwifka

The course will help the student develop an understanding of Old Testament Scriptures as they are used in the Episcopal liturgical and catechetical tradition. A brief introduction on the nature and communication of meaning will be followed by a survey of key elements of the Old Testament as part of a Christian tradition.

Principal Text: A Theological Introduction to the Old Testament, Second Edition. By Bruce C. Birch, Walter Brueggemann, Terence E. Fretheim, & David L. Petersen.will help the student develop an understanding of Old Testament Scriptures as they are used in the Episcopal church.

Course Title: ANGLICAN APPROACHES TO THE STUDY OF SCRIPTURE.

Instructor/Tutor: The Rev. Duncan Johnston.

Aim of the course: To introduce students to various methods of interpreting the Bible,

Learning outcome: Students will appreciate that there is no objective method of reading and interpreting the Bible, and will become aware of their own presuppositions which they bring to their reading particularly from within the Anglican tradition.
