Folens Publishers Celebrate Golden Anniversary and

Launch €100,000 Competition for Schools

Folens educational publishing company recently announced the Folens Golden Anniversary Schools Competition, which has a prize fund of €100,000. The competition is being launched to commemorate Folens’ Golden Anniversary and to encourage schools to promote the culture of volunteering by students, while assisting the less fortunate in communities across the country. Through the Folens’ Golden Anniversary School’s Competition, primary and post primary schools are being given the opportunity to win a first prize of €20,000 Euros, €10,000 for their school and a donation of €10,000 for a local registered charity of their choice.

According to Dirk Folens, Former Chairman & Managing Director,Folens is committed to supporting Irish education and has launched this competition to assist schools in these financially challenging times and is proud to support schools in this alternative way,” he concluded. Folens is inviting participating schools to outline, in 300 words or less, how their school currently works with a local charity or propose to work with their nominated charity in the future. The Folens’ Golden Anniversary Schools Competition will be judged by an independent panel of esteemed judges including, Senator Feargal Quinn of Seanad Eireann and Eileen Dunne of RTE.

The €100,000 prize fund will be allocated as follows:

  • 1st Prize: €20,000 - €10,000 for a school and €10,000 for the school’s nominated local registered charity
  • Regional Prizes: Dublin, Munster, Leinster and Connaught / Ulster - €5,000 will be awarded per school and €5,000 for the school’s nominated local charity
  • Consolation Prizes: 20 consolation prizes of €1,000 per school and €1,000 for the school’s nominated local charity

One entry will be accepted from each school on entry forms, which have been posted out to schools this week or through the Folens website at Submissions should be no longer than 300 words and reach Folens by Friday, 3rd April 2009.
