LEARNING SUPPORT ASSISTANT

LOCATION:The BridgeLifeSkillsCollegeResidential Learning Provision

REPORTING TO:Registered Manager

MAIN PURPOSE OF POST:-

The main purpose of the post is to:-

  • Support the development of a total Life Skills learning environment and culture in which learners with autism and of all abilities are encouraged to develop and progress.
  • Support the delivery of high quality learning and support for learners with autism through effective implementation of APV and SCERTS framework to enable young people to thrive within their Life Skills learning.
  • Support the Management team to ensure that the service delivers outstanding results and achieves “Outstanding” ratings as identified by Regulatory Bodies
  • Support the Management team to enable learners to take control of their learning journey in order to access and gain maximum benefit from the qualifications system, work placements and job opportunities
  • Be part of a support team which produces learners with confidence, values and abilities to contribute and take their rightful place in society
  • Support the Management team to continue to develop a life skills learning ethos which enables those involved around the Learner to collaboratively work to share knowledge and understanding, celebrate success and accept shared responsibility for outcomes.
  • Treat all people fairly, equitably and with dignity and respect to create and maintain a positive environment

Responsibilities

  1. LifeSkillsCollege and Residential Learning Provision

a.Support the delivery of an all through learning journey with a personalised path for all Learners

b.As directed by management, support the delivery of the LifeSkillsCollegesystems of monitoring and reviewing of practice approach to inform self evaluation and support the identification of areas of development

c.As directed by management, support the process of continuous monitoring, improvement and curriculumto maximise educational attainment and achievement through learning outcomes for all learners

d.Support the management team to ensure that systems and documentation to identify, address and report on learner’s specific needs and achievements are in place, updated and used appropriately

e.Support the management team to implementand deliver a formal schedule of learning and preparation of learning materials

f.Support the management team to plan and deliver learning activities to both individual and groups of learners across a range of College and community based environments

g.As directed by the management team, support the implementation and delivery of Individual Learning Plans – “ILPs”

h.As directed by the management team,support the delivery oflearning strategies as appropriate to support young people with autism

i.As directed by the management team,support the organisation of Life Skills sessions including appropriate resources are available and allocated on the basis of assessed need. Reportany resource concerns to line management

j.Support the management team to actively involve learners within curriculum content

k.As directed by the management teamsupport the delivery of therapeutic need provided by the Specialist Support Team

l.Positively support the management team to harmoniously deliver a consistent “Life Skills” approach and ethos across both the Life Skills College Day and the Residential Learning settings

m.Support the management teamto ensure that the Life Skills College services conforms to and exceeds the regulatory and statutory requirements required e.g. Ofsted, CQC, Fire, Health & Safety – Report any concerns to line management.

n.Support the management team to ensure that the College is fit for purpose and ready for external inspections

o.Support the development of good positive relations with parents, carers and professionals

p.Support the management team to promote positive good public relations andstrong positive links with outside agencies, providers and services

q.Ensure that you adhere to risk assessments for all activities, the environment, visitors, health & safety, safeguarding, and potential challenging behaviours. Bring to line management’s attention concerns that may arise, on the same day concern is identified.

r.Complete vehicle driving efficiency training as required and as appropriate (You will need to hold a full clean driving licence to complete this training)

2.Learner Support

a.Observe learner behaviours onsite and off site, and support the Learner within the Learner’s Individual Support Plan, approved organisational procedures and in accordance withtraining provided.

b.Support the Learner as appropriate with intimate care needs

c.Provide individualised appropriate support to the Learner during times of stress, frustration or emotional upset.

d. At times of challenging behaviours adhere to the support approaches as outlined within the Learner’s Behaviour Support Plan, Risk Assessment and approved procedures and training.

e.At times of challenging behaviour provide support to colleagues during and post challenging behaviour incident. Any concern relating to colleagues’ welfare should be raised with line management immediately.

f. Raise any learner concerns with line management as soon as possible and on the same day that concerns are identified.

g.Key Worker duties will include:-

  • Monthly Learner attendance records, Key worker 1:1 session plans and reports
  • Attend Reviews as required by management, and as appropriate
  • Supportthe delivery of any changes required to Individual Learning Plans (ILPS)
  • As required support the review of Learner Risk Assessments and Behaviour Support Plans
  • Ensure Learner medical and hygiene appointments are made
  • Ensure positive relations and contact are maintained with parents/guardian ad litem

3.Quality Assurance

a.Support the management team to achieve the Life Skills College KPIs and CSFs

b.Support the management team to ensure quality assurance compliance with internal and external standards, good practice and regulatory and statutory requirements

4.Safeguarding (Child Young People and Vulnerable Adult Protection)

a.Ensure you attend Safeguarding training and refresher training as directed by line management

b.As directed by the management team, and as appropriate, cooperate and work with relevant agencies to protect young people and vulnerable adults

c.Bring any safeguarding concerns immediately to the attention of your line management or in their absence to the on call manager/another Registered Manager/Life Skills Practitioner, and/or the Head of Life Skills College/Chief Executive Officer or member of the Executive Management Team

5.Continuous Professional Development

a.Ensure that you attend all appropriate training/refresher training to enable you to deliver the role and to raise awareness of developments within the field of autism and learning

6.General Responsibilities

a.Attend and participate in regular supervisions and meetings as arranged by line management

b.Adhere and promotegood practice in relation to equality & diversity and allorganisational policies and procedures, and bring any concerns immediately to line management attention

c.Adhere and promotegood practice in relation to health & safety to minimise potential risk to staff, learners and third parties

d.Ensure that you fully understand and observe the Confidentiality policy and procedure and that all matters concerning an individual learner/service user are kept strictly confidential as appropriate.

e.Attend meetings, and provide written reports as required

f.Be committed to promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults in line with Organisation’s policies and procedures and in accordance with the responsibilities of the role of Learning Support Assistant.

g.Ensure that your conduct within and outside of the Organisation does not conflict with Organisation professional expectations

h.To carry out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the role of Learning Support Assistant as directed by line management

The nature of the organisation’s work entrusts people with confidential information about people with autism, their families/carers, and staff, therefore confidentiality must be maintained as appropriate. Breaches of confidentiality may constitute gross misconduct.
