The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Vice Chancellor, Administrative Information Systems. The University seeks an accomplished leader to provide operational and strategic leadership for the delivery of application development and systems management services for the Campus.
Founded in 1919, UCLA is an integral part of one of the world’s preeminent public university systems. As one of the leading public research universities worldwide, UCLA, operating on an annual budget of approximately $4 billion in FY 2007-08, received over $913 million in external research funding during 2006-2007. The Campus encompasses 419 acres in Westwood Village in Los Angeles, about five miles from the Pacific Ocean.
UCLA is one of 62 North American universities admitted to the prestigious Association of American Universities, with an undergraduate student enrollment of 25,432 and a graduate student body of 11,179. Home to Nobel Laureates and National Medal of Science winners, UCLA has 4,016 full and part-time faculty members and over 26,000 staff members. Through the College of Letters and Science, as well as 11 professional schools, the University offers 118 undergraduate degrees and has 200 graduate programs
In 1995, the University initiated Campaign UCLA with a goal to raise $1.2 billion. The campaign finished in 2005 with over $3 billion in gifts and pledges from 225,000 donors. This fund-raising campaign was the most successful in the history of public higher education and has allowed UCLA to continue its tradition of advancing higher education and the common good through excellence in scholarship, research, and public service.
Reporting to the Administrative Vice Chancellor, this senior level executive will hold
core responsibilities to include the following:
· provide, with a staff of 130, full management and leadership of the department of Administrative Information Systems, including an annual permanent budget of $16+ million and average incremental special project revenues of $4+M;
· oversee all budgetary and financial management and set direction in computing that affects and reflects the needs of the entire campus;
· direct feasibility studies, analysis, development, implementation, and maintenance of central campus administrative applications including financial systems, payroll/personnel, purchasing and accounts payable systems, student systems, and infrastructure and middleware systems;
· oversee the direction and management of the 24/7 production operation of a large data center to process effectively and efficiently all production user applications;
· direct the development and the implementation of short- and long-range planning to support the overall administrative computing requirements of the UCLA campus;
· participate in active technology forecasting, tracking and planning functions to ensure that new and innovative technologies are supported in the administrative arena; and
· collaborate with the Associate Vice Chancellor of Information Technology (CIO) in support of the coordination and delivery of campus-wide IT services.
Desired Qualifications:
· Ten years demonstrated success in leading and managing a highly complex Information Systems organization/department with comparable staff and budget ($20MM+ budget, 120+ full-time employees).
· Proven ability to develop short and long-term information technology strategies that improve services and reduce costs associated with delivery and maintenance; active involvement with innovative approaches and technologies that deliver value to customers.
· Verbal and written communication skills to convey appropriately the organizational mission, vision, and values to a variety of Campus and University constituents.
· Experience with large, complex systems that include Personnel/Human Resources, Financial Management, Payroll, Accounts Payable, Student Systems, and middle-ware needed to enable cross-platform computing.
· Success in the use of current Information Technology security practices for mission-critical systems and infrastructure.
· Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, hire, and develop AIS personnel at all levels and backgrounds.
· Advanced degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or Business Administration is desired.
