Carter Scholarship Fund & Application
A scholarship will be awarded to a descendant of Emmanuel and Elmira Carter each year during the family reunion subject to the availability of funds.
Any male or female descendent of Emmanuel and Elmira Carter may apply for the scholarship by MAY 1 of each year. Applications may be obtained by contacting your family state’s representative.
Applications may be mailed to committee chair, Ms. Joyce Cathey, at 225 Colonel Drive, Garland, TX. 75043.
The applicant must:
- Be able to trace his/her roots back to Emmanuel and Elmira Carter.
- Plan to pursue a degree at a college or university as a fulltime student.
- Submit the scholarship application and all support documentation as prescribed by the scholarship committee by the scheduled deadline date
- Be accepted for admission and subsequently enroll at the college or university of their choice
The application process will include:
- Completing an application giving basic biographical information, current academic status, and future career plans
- Writing an essay which:
- Outlines the applicant’s goals
- Explain how college will assist in meeting those goals
- Expresses the applicant’s perceptions of what commitment to family and family values mean to him/her
- Expresses how the applicant purposes to honor the Carter family heritage
- Submitting three (3) Letters of Reference (From non-Family Members)

Submitting small photo
Although not required, applicants are encouraged to be present or have immediate family member present at the Family Reunion.
The scholarship will be delivered to the student/college during the 1st semester of enrollment upon verification of enrollment by the college or university.
