Job Title: Gelcoat Repair

Classification: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Assembly Manager

Job Description: Inspects Gelcoat for any imperfections and repairs if necessary. Each boat is then sanded and buffed to a high gloss shine. Patch & Polish includes the duties of underwater gear and splatter.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Will identify and correct imperfections in the gelcoat with gelcoat patching, sanders and buffing
  • Inspects all boats after production to ensure that gelcoat is complete and up to quality standards.
  • Apply waterproof splatter paint to the hull of the boat.
  • Install underwater gear to hull including laser alignment of the shaft.
  • Keep work area clean and orderly.
  • Any other duties as assigned by management.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in non climate controlled environment where ambient air temperature can exceed outside air temperature.
  • Must be able to bend at waist, knees and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to climb into and out of interior of boats.
  • Must be able to wear proper safety equipment to include respirator when necessary.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds when necessary.

Tools used in this occupation include but are not limited to:

  • Personal Protective Equipment- Safety Glasses, dust/mist respirator
  • Hand Tools- screwdrivers, buffers, air file, drill, and sanders.
  • Cleaners- All Purpose Cleaner, mineral spirits, acetone, soap and water.

Knowledge includes but is not limited to:

  • Attention to detail for gelcoat imperfections.
  • Be able to use orbital sander and buffer.
  • Keep work area clean and orderly.
  • Follow instruction of Supervisor/foreman/lead.
  • Must be able to operate forklift when necessary
  • Must be able to use and maintain hand tools such as drill, air file, sander etc.
  • Be able to complete basic installations.
  • Knowledge of production processes and quality control.
