Ancient Astronomer Twitter Wars

AstronomyName:Date:Pd:

Several themes seemed to encompass the studies of astronomers from both BCE and CE. While they didn’t always agree on the “how’s” and the “why’s”, they were able to build a catalog of knowledge that helped shape our modern understanding of astronomy. From struggling without technology to using telescopes to uncover even more mysteries than we knew possible, we have made many strides, but still, in some ways, feel very much “in the dark”.

Your task:

You will be assigned one of the hashtags below. Once you have your hashtag, select five astronomers from the fifteen on your timeline that either helped formulate ideas associated with that hashtag or were influenced by it. Select one of your five astronomers to be the main twitter profile. This astronomer will send out an initial tweet that will get the conversation started. Engage all five astronomers in an interesting scientific discussion about your hashtag. Time is not relevant and we can assume they are all on twitter at the same time (or at all!)

Requirements:

  • Five astronomer minimum
  • Your hashtag must be used in each tweet
  • Adhere to the 240 character limit for each tweet
  • Your twitter feed needs to show evolution of our understanding of your topic
  • Your twitter feed needs to be a dialogue amongst the five astronomers, not independent posts

#PARALLAX

#HELIOCENTRIC

#MATH/GEOMETRY

#MARS.RETROGRADE

#PERFECT.HEAVENS

#ELLIPSE

#GEOCENTRIC

*Note: Your hashtag is a jumping-off point for your conversation and does not have to be the overall topic of conversation!
