NOTICE OF RACE DRAGON’S BREATH REGATTA An ICRC Event August 5-7, 2016

1 RULES

1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2013 – 2016.

1.2 A violation of rule 55 can result in a penalty other than disqualification.

2 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY

2.1 The regatta is open to all PHRF rated monohulls with a minimum of 20’ in length.

2.2 Entrants racing for the team award are required to have a current NC-PHRF certificate per ICRC rules.

Those entrants not listed on the 2016 NC-PHRF website must submit a copy of their valid NC-PHRF certificate with their Entry Form. All boats not rated by NC-PHRF will be assigned a provisional rating for purposes of this regatta but will not be scored for their team. The Organizing Authority reserves the right to reassign boats to a different class than the one in which they entered.

2.3 Classes (spinnaker and non-spinnaker) will be divided into divisions based on the boat’s PHRF rating as follows, following 2016 ICRC Rule #3.

A: 120 and below, B: 123 through 192, C: 195 and above

Cruising: Entries must be in accordance with the current ICRC definition. Check the appropriate requirements boxes on the Entry Form.

The PRO will have no authority to change these divisions, even if it leads to a division with only one boat. (See orientaldinghyclub.com under Racing/Race Documents/Rules for more details.)

2.4 REGISTRATION is done by submitting the attached Entry Form and fee to arrive by July 28th.

2.5 LATE REGISTRATION is for any Entry Form submitted after July 28th. LATE REGISTRATION will be accepted at the REGATTA HEADQUARTERS DESK at the Oriental Marina and Inn (OMI) 1730 to 1930

Friday August 5th.

2.6 You may avoid LATE REGISTRATION FEE by emailing your intent to race to Todd Cox, by July 28th including all information required on the entry form. Submit the completed entry documents and fees at the REGATTA HEADQUARTERS DESK on Friday but not later than 0730 on Saturday.

3 FEES

3.1 The REGISTRATION fee is $65.00, if received by July 28th.

3.2 The LATE REGISTRATION fee is $75.00 after July 28th.

3.3 US Sailing members (2016) are eligible for a $5.00 discount if their current member # is on the entry form.

3.4 Crew lunches may be pre-ordered for delivery to Tiki Bar at 0730 on Saturday and Sunday.

3.5 Saturday dinner tickets are available for $20.00 each with REGISTRATION. Saturday dinner tickets are available after July 28th.for $22.00 each. All dinner tickets must be purchased by 0730 Saturday.

4 SCHEDULE

4.1 Dates of Racing: August 6 7, 2016.

4.2 Captain’s bags will be available for pickup on Friday, August 5, 2016 from 1730 – 1930 at the Tiki Bar at the OMI.

4.3 A Skipper’s Meeting will be held at 0800 on Saturday on the deck at the OMI. Continental Breakfast will be served from 0730 until 0830 on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

4.4 Number of races: We will attempt to hold up to five races; preferably three on Saturday and two on

Sunday. One race will constitute a regatta.

4.5 The scheduled time of the first warning signal on Saturday is 1100 and at 1000 on Sunday. Warning signals for a second race of the day will be at the discretion of the race committee.

4.6 On Saturday there will be a cash bar social at the Tiki Bar at the OMI following racing, with an Islands

Buffet dinner on the grounds of the OMI at 1800. There will be a band after dinner is over.

4.7 Awards will be presented on the deck of the OMI on Sunday after the day’s racing is completed.

5 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

The sailing instructions will be posted on the ODC website prior to the first race day. Copies will be included in the Captain’s Bags. It will also be posted on the Official Bulletin Board at OMI.

6 VENUE

Regatta headquarters will be on the deck of the Oriental Marina and Inn (OMI) on the harbor in Oriental

NC. The races will be held in the waters off of Oriental NC.

7 THE COURSES

The courses to be sailed will be triangular or windward/leeward and will be posted on the signal boat. Diagrams will be included in the sailing instructions. Inflatable cylinders will be used as marks and will all be left to port. All boats in a Class (Spinnaker or Non-spinnaker) will sail the same course, although the divisions may have separate starts.

8 SCORING

Scoring will be done by low point total. If 5 races are held, one throw out will be allowed.

9 DOCK SPACE

Dock space may be available at the OMI (252-249-1818). Dock space may be available at Whittaker

Pointe Marina, 252-249-1750. Transportation to town is available from this marina.

10 PRIZES

Up to three trophies will be awarded to each class or division depending on the number of entries.

11 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY

Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.

12 INSURANCE

Entry into this regatta certifies by the owner that the participating yacht is insured with current third-party liability insurance.
