Concept – FUNCTIONAL ABILITY

Concept Definition

The physical, psychological, cognitive and social ability to carry on normal activities of life.

Down’s syndrome

*including only functional ability aspects of care in exemplars.
Objectives

1.  Explain the concept of Functional Ability (including definition, antecedents, and attributes).

2.  Identify the four domains of Functional Ability.

3.  Identify the two categories of Functional Ability.

4.  Identify when the concept most likely to be present.

5.  Identify how the nurse would recognize variances with the concept (conditions which place a patient at risk developing an imbalance).

6.  Explain how the nurse provides care for those affected by negative consequences of this concept.

7.  Discuss the exemplars of Functional Ability.

8.  Apply the nursing process (including collaborative interventions) for individuals experiencing Functional Ability imbalance.
