1General

Site grading is to include the construction of the storm water pond in location indicated on drawings and upgrades to David Manchester Road.

.1Examine subsurface investigation report.

1.4PROTECTION

.1Protect existing fencing, trees, landscaping, natural features and bench marks. If damaged, restore to original condition unless specified otherwise.

.2Maintain site access points to prevent accumulation of mud on municipal roads.

.3Conform to the requirements of the Tree Conservation Report.

2Products

2.1MATERIALS

.1Fill material: Type to be in accordance with Excavating, Trenching and Backfilling.

.2Use excavated or graded material existing on site as fill for grading work if approved by Architect. Protect approved material from contamination.

3Execution

3.1STRIPPING OF TOPSOIL

.1Do not handle topsoil while in wet or frozen condition or in any manner in which soil structure is adversely affected.

.2Commence topsoil stripping after area has been cleared of brush, weeds and grasses and these materials removed from site.

.3Strip topsoil. Avoid mixing topsoil with subsoil.

.4Stockpile height not to exceed 2 m.

3.2GRADING

.1Rough grade to levels, profiles, and contours allowing for surface treatment as indicated.

.2Rough grade to following depths below finish grades:

.1150 mm for grassed areas.

.2450 mm for asphalt or gravel paving.

.3450 mm for concrete paving, walks or precast paving units.

.3Slope rough grade away from building 1:50 minimum.

.4Grade ditches to depth required for maximum runoff or as indicated.

.5Prior to placing fill over existing ground, scarify surface to depth of 150 mm. Maintain fill and existing surface at approximately same moisture content to facilitate bonding.

.6Compact filled and disturbed areas to maximum dry density to ASTM D698, as follows:

.185% under landscaped areas.

.295% under paved and walk areas.

.7Do not disturb soil within branch spread of trees or shrubs to remain.

3.3TESTING

.1Inspection and testing of soil compaction will be carried out by testing laboratory designated by ULC.

.2Costs of tests will be paid by the Contractor.

.3Submit recommended testing procedure, frequency of tests, testing laboratory or certified testing personnel to Architect for approval.

3.4SURPLUS MATERIAL

.1Surplus material is to remain on site in a location to be selected by the Owner.
