Enrollment: 77

Highlights:

Florence Virtual Academy

Enrollment:

Enrollment thus far is 77 students; we have dropped a few students this month and have added a few students this month.

Credit Recovery at PBHS

FVA, with the assistance of Dr. Pappalardo and his staff, is offering credit recovery to seniors for tuition. We continue to offer coursework to students who otherwise will not graduate on time. Thus far we are having success with those students who are motivated to graduate with their class.

Curriculum and Instruction – Foundations and Delivery

We continue to work towards NCA accreditation through the initial self-assessment. Our initial visit has been completed and we have achieved candidate status. We will be scheduling our spring visit and working on our more detailed, artifact orientated self- assessment. Our spring visit will most likely take place in April and our approval, provided all goes as it should, will be submitted for full accreditation status in June.

Our exams went well. Students seem to be pleased with the program and the feedback that they are receiving from their teachers. For our students who started after October 10, mid-term exams will take place in mid-February. We have begun to work with a company called ProctorCam that will allow us to administer final exams from a distance, recording the session on a webcam with both video and sound, as well as recording any activity on the student computer during the test. This will afford our school with an increased level of validation of the integrity of student work.

We continue to have our students working with ALEKS and using the Khan Academy to further comprehension in math. We feel that this, coupled with the foundation of the Florida Virtual School curriculum, will prepare our students for continued / future success in mathematics.

Project IMPACT FUSD

I. ‘nPLAY / H.U.M.A.N. (Helping Unite Man And Nutrition) Healthy Vending

We continue to experience success with the Healthy Vending machines in all of our schools. We are in the process of applying for status with the United States Healthier School Challenge. We have reached out to the Arizona Department of Education, Food and Nutrition Services branch to assist us with this process.

Principal’s Summary:

Florence Virtual Academy continues to grow and to deliver quality, rigorous curriculum and instruction to students. We are growing daily and are working towards NCA accreditation. Our enrollment of out of district students continues to increase, as does our capacity to deliver quality instructional opportunities to our students. We are beginning to use resources from the Khan Academy and synchronous sessions through VenueGen to improve student achievement.
