I. CATALOG DESCRIPTION
This course will study the process for event management. Special attention will
be given to the roles and skills utilized by sport and recreation managers.
II. COURSE OVERVIEW
This course provides the student with an overview of the techniques used to successfully promote and manage sport events. The student will have the opportunity to work in both event leadership and game day management. This course is an ESSR elective in the Sport Management/Marketing curriculum.
III. COURSE OBJECTIVES
The objectives of this course are:
A. Provide leadership experience in developing and managing an event.
B. Provide game day management experience
C. Develop knowledge of:
1. Budget
2. Time lines and planning
3. Marketing events to the media and consumers
4. Creating and conducting an event
IV. LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Students who complete this course should have the ability to accomplish
the following:
A. Develop and conduct a sport or recreational event.
B. Create a realistic budget for an event.
C. Explain the difference between at least three different ways to create
event planning time lines.
D. Develop a marketing plan.
E. Supervise an event in progress.
F. Perform the individual roles required during an event in progress.

ACADEMIC ACCOMMODATION
