Ideas for home:

We have been reading The Gingerbread Man story at school. We have talked about various body parts, and played a fun game to build our own gingerbread man. This week in language group, we made our own gingerbread cookies. Unfortunately somehow the oven door was opened and they escaped. Luckily, they left clues for us around the school. Using our receptive language skills and vocabulary we had to decipher the clues to track them down. Next, we used our expressive language skills to make guesses as to where they went.
Finally we sequenced the various places putting them in order when we finally found them back in the classroom. / A. Label vocabulary:
-Nouns: man, cookie, oven, basket, library, office, gym, nurse, classroom.
-Verbs: ran, catch/caught, go, find.
B. Have your child identify various places the gingerbread man could hide in given clues
( i.e. I may be hiding where you check out a book, its down the hall so go take a look) For home this could be something like( I may be hiding in the place where you sleep. It’s up the stairs you must creep.).
C. Expressive Language: Have your child answer where questions (i.e. Where do you sleep?) Next, have your child tell you all the places the gingerbread man/men went. (i.e. First, he hid in the bedroom etc..) / Watch the Gingerbread Sing a long Reading on You Tube or read this book together.
Either make a list of ingredients or go to the store and purchase pre-made gingerbread dough. Make and roll out your cookies and place in oven. Talk about what you are doing as you do it (i.e. I am rolling the dough etc). Next announce that the gingerbread cookies have escaped from the oven and you found a clue telling where they have gone. Start your house hunt to find them.
PLEASE NOTE: THERE ARE NO PRE-MADE MATERIALS FOR THIS ACTIVITY
You can either make up your own clues or print out suggested clues from this website:
