Tom Bullard

Tom Bullard came to the Allegri Singers in 2008 after working for seven years in the Swingle Singers, the last four as Musical Director. Under his direction the group had toured through Europe, the USA, Asia, South America and New Zealand, performing in venues such as the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, the Terme di Caracalla in Rome, the Philharmonic Hall in St Petersburg and the Royal Albert Hall. Before joining the Swingle Singers, Tom sang for three years with the Choir of King’s College, Cambridge, where he read Music, making a number of solo appearances in broadcasts and recordings with King's College Choir. At Cambridge he spent a great deal of time in orchestras, both as bassoonist and conductor.

Season

The Allegri Singers

The Allegri Singers were founded in 1981 by Paul Stevens with the aim of performing a wide variety of choral music to the highest standard, specialising particularly in twentieth century repertoire. Our second conductor wasLouis Halseywho was responsible for two CDs and a number of radio and television broadcasts.

Since then, under the varied batons of Dr Michael Nicholas, former Organist and Master of Choristers at Norwich Cathedral, Andrew Kennedy, the dynamic young singer now an inter-national hit on the opera and recital stage, and Keith Roberts, a multi-faceted musician, counter-tenor, conductor, composer and arranger, the choir’s repertoire has widened to include more renaissance and baroque works, including some with period instruments, along with jazz numbers and his own compositions, while continuing the choir’s commitment to music composed in recent decades.

Since September 2008, the choir’s musical director has been Tom Bullard, who brings the wealth of his experience with the Swingle Singers to the choir. Tom has also added his arrangements to our repertoire, and is keen to broaden our repertoire even further, as this season’s varied programme shows.

Saturday February5, 2011

All Saints' Church, Rosendale Road, Dulwich, at 7:00 pm

“Handel - Samson”, reckoned to be one of his finest dramatic works. The well-known arias ‘Let the bright Seraphim’ (for soprano) and ‘Total eclipse’ (for tenor) are often performed separately in concert. Featuring an excellent team of soloists and a small baroque orchestra.

Saturday April 9, 2011

St Mark's, Bromley at 7:45 pm

“British Passion Music”

The great German Passions, especially the settings by Bach, are so well known that other settings are often overlooked. This concert will give us an opportunity to re-assess the Irish composer Charles Wood's 1920 setting of The Passion of Our Lord According to Saint Mark, with organ accompaniment and an excellent group of soloists. Wood (1866 - 1926) studied music with Stanford and Parry, and went on to teach Vaughan Williams and Herbert Howells. Works by Stanford and Parry will make up the rest of this programme.

Saturday July 2, 2011, at 7:45 pm

St Francis', West Wickham

“Music for a Summer's Evening”, featuring a delightfully wide-ranging selection of Folk Songs, Part Songs, Jazz Numbers and music for a Summer's Evening.

Other Events
