Art Kit List

Sussex Middle School - Gr. 6,7,8

Miss. C. Wilson

Art supplies can be purchased for under $10.

These supplies will be used for all 3 years at SMS.

Please make sure your child comes prepared to class. It is impossible to teach

an art class when a student comes to class with no pencil and no sketchbook.

Supplies are available from the Dollarama, Great Canadian Dollarstore etc.

Other places to purchase supplies include: Wal-Mart, Zellers, Michaels,

ESL Art Supplies (Union St. Saint John), Staples, Endeavours (Fredericton)

q 1 Piece Bristol Board – any colour (you can get one for $1 from me)

(Used to make portfolio cases. Recycled Bristol board from an old project is OK too)

q 12 Pack Pencils

q Pencil Case or Pencil Box

q Mini Pencil Sharpener with Cover

q White Eraser or Brown Gum Eraser

q 1- 4B or 5B Shading Pencil (*see below)

q Small Paintbrush(es) ($ Store 6-pk with clear coloured handles are good)

q Sketchbook with White Paper (8x10 or bigger)

(Be careful NOT to get a scrapbook or tracing paper book by mistake.

If you can’t find a sketchbook, use a duo-tang with unlined white paper)

Put your child’s name on their supplies. Art Kits will be kept in the art room so it is necessary to purchase art kits in addition to your child’s regular school supply list. This way, students are always prepared and ready to work.

*Shading pencils are labelled with a “B” not an “H”. The $ Store sells these in 12 packs but Crayola, Prang or Staedtler are better) You don’t need to purchase a fancy case of shading pencils. Office supply stores and art stores like Michael’s sell shading pencils separately for $1.50 each, and all your child needs is one. Prang come in a 4-pack for $3 from Wal-Mart but a Staedtler 12 pack are $20. Sometimes you can get a shading pencil kit which comes with an eraser and smudge stick. These are a good bargain for beginners.
