The Order of the Daughters of the King, Esther Chapter
As Cathy Allen decided to step down as President, the 25 members of Esther Chapter held nominations and elections for President, Vice-President, Recording Secretary and Treasurer.
I was elected President, Gail Towell as Vice-President, and Stephanie Hopper as Secretary and Bette Patz as Treasurer. The new officers began a 3-year term in September.
One of our first orders of business was to form an Executive Board to include all the elected officers and to add a corresponding secretary —Martha Wharton was elected to the Board at the November meeting and was re-appointed as Prayer List Chair.
In October, the Board decided to add a Parliamentarian and Jan Fontaine was added to the Executive Board. All meetings will follow Robert’s Rules of Order.
The Executive Board was also assigned as liaison for the following areas:
Devotions/Outreach - Gail
Enrichment/Study - Stephanie
New Candidates - Karen
Visitation Team – Bette
Open Prayer Time – Karen
At the end of all the meetings, it was decided to add “Thank You Jesus” moments during our circle time before departure.
In October, Carmeta Blake was appointed Devotions Chair. She presents a Devotion at each of our Chapter meetings.
Nov. 5, All Saints Day, traditionally is when all members around the world of the Order of the Daughters of the King have a corporate Holy Eucharist. To show support of our parish, we provided all support services for each of the three services during that weekend.
At the November meeting, Gail introduced the DOK Diocese of Central Florida named Days for Girls as the Diocese project. Esther Chapter members also selected the same project as one of our Outreach Projects. The Project helps girls by providing colorful hygiene bags and supplies for girls so they can continue their education during menstruation,
The Esther Chapter also continued to work with Citrus County Blessings, packing food for schoolchildren in Citrus County. We are assigned to two elementary schools in Citrus Springs. We pack enough food for the weekends during the school year. Our crew packs once a month on the Wednesday before the third Thursday at Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church in Citrus Springs. More volunteers are always needed. Sign-up sheets are in the parish hall.
In November, we also continued our study of “The Gospel of John” with discussions and sharing.
During 2017, the Esther Chapter planned to have an open meeting on Jan. 21 and invite all women of the parish who are interested in learning about our Order.
We also hope to invite all members of the parish to participate in the Days for Girls where we will be making bags for girls all over the world and collecting supplies to go into the bags.
We also hope to hold a make your own rosary day and host a day for saying the rosary in prayer.
Esther Chapter members are devoted to helping to improve the spiritual health of our parish through prayer, service and evangelism.
Respectfully Submitted,
Karen Kennedy-Hall, President
