APPLEBY ARCHAEOLOGY GROUP

CONSTITUTION

1.NAME

The name of the organisation is the Appleby Archaeology Group.

2.OBJECTIVES

The Group has the following objectives:

A.To promote a better understanding of the past and the role of archaeology through talks, discussion, visits to ancient sites and teaching activities.

B.To carry out research into archaeology and local history and enable those with no formal training to take part in archaeology at an amateur level

C.To inform local people about the activities of the group and promote a greater awareness and appreciation of the historic environment.

3.MEMBERSHIP

A.Membership is open to those with an interest in the Group’s objectives and who pay the subscription.

B.The subscription entitles members to attend meetings and become involved in the group’s activities and will last for one year.

4. MANAGEMENT

  1. The Group shall be managed by a Committee which shall consist of the following:
  1. The Officers;
  1. Members who from time to time may volunteer, or may be invited to join the committee by the officers, such appointments shall be confirmed by the membership at the next Annual General Meeting.
  1. The group's research activities shall be directed by a nominated committee member, who will also consider suggestions from the membership for future activities.
  1. Specialist Subcommittees shall be formed from time to time and will report to the main Committee.

5. OFFICERS

  1. The Officers shall be Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary.
  1. The Chairman shall serve for no more than five consecutive years and shall not be reappointed as Chairman thereafter for three years.
  1. All members of the management committeeshall be appointed annually by the Annual General Meeting.

6. MEETINGS

  1. The Group shall hold a General Meeting each year no later than 31st January, to receive a Chairman's Report, Treasurer's Report, appoint the Officers and Committee and transact other business specified in the notice convening the meeting.
  1. Committee meetings shall be called as agreed by the Committee.
  1. Fourteen days notice shall be given of meetings.
  1. There shall be a 50%quorum for Committee Meetings.
  1. Chairman or Vice Chairman of the Committee will Chair meetings or appoint a proxy for the meeting.
  1. Voting shall be by a show of hands.
  1. Minutes of the Annual General Meeting and Committee Meetings shall be made by the Secretary.

7.FINANCES

A.The financial year shall start in January.

B.Subscriptions shall be levied once a year in January. New members joining in October, November or December will not be expected to renew their subscription until the second January after they join.

C.The Group shall ensure that its subscriptions, grants and other charges payable by members and guests at events are sufficient to meet its debts and liabilities.

D.On the winding up of the Group any assets shall be passed to a similar group operating in Cumbria with compatible objectives.
