Activities on Capacity Development / Further Actions required (by Regional, Zonal, HQ staff, partners, farmers)
1.Three LIVES staff and twenty three staff from the regional BoARD, regional and districts OoARDtrained on the use of e-learning.
2. Livestock training needs for farmers, extension agents and experts identified across the seven action districts and preparation of training materials underway.
3.Irrigated crops capacity needs identified and discussed with IWMI.
4. Course on livestock feed management and research methodology were given to TARI staff. / 1. Beneficiaries will be mentored on effective use e-readers.
2.Capacity building on market oriented livestock will be conducted possibly in the coming months.
3. Irrigated crops capacity development will be started as of November in collaboration with IWMI.
Activities on Knowledge Management / Further Actions required (by Regional, Zonal, HQ staff, partners, farmers)
  1. Distribution of furniture and ICT equipment for knowledge centers completed in central zone of Tigary: zonal and district levels- Axum, Ahferom, Adwa and LaelayMaitchew.
  2. Distribution of three e-readers in the region, 11 e-readers in eastern and 9 in central zones for targeted partners in the two zones and seven districts completed.
/ 1. Facilitate the functioning of knowledge centers in the zone and districts.
2. Facilitated and support beneficiaries continuously on the use of e-learning on market oriented livestock and irrigated crops development.
Activities on Promotion / Further Actions required (by Regional, Zonal, HQ staff, partners, farmers)
1. Discussion on the marketing of processed milk products (yoghurt, pasteurized milk and cheese) completed with a private milk processor in Adwa district
2. Presentation on “Forage development in Atsbi: IPMS experiences” prepared. / 1. Pastured fluid milk promotion will be held in the next couple of months.
2. The forage development experience will be presented at the Open Forum for Agricultural Development meeting which will be held next week in Mekele.
Activities on Value Chain Development / Further Actions required (by Regional, Zonal, HQ staff, partners, farmers)
1. Poultry farmers identified and grouped in Adwa district
2. Dairy farmers contacted for implementing chosen technological interventions in Adwa and LaelayMiatchew districts
3. Dairy farmers contacted for implementing chosen technological interventions in Atsbi and KilteAwlaelo districts
4. Small ruminant marketing group in Negash contacted for further collaboration.
5. Irrigated forage use and production groups strengthened and further actions identified.
6. Irrigated vegetables and fruits value chain based interventions synthesized and actors identified. / 1. Capacity development of poultry farmers will be facilitated and linked with credit service providers.
2 and 3. Improved dairy interventions such as mass insemination, vet services and feed supply will be facilitated.
4. Shaot marketing group will be capacitated with skill and knowledge on market oriented shoat management.
5. Improved use of forage will be linked with high value dairy cows and sheep fattening. Feed development or enrichment will be strengthened in the irrigated sites.
6. Irrigated vegetables and fruit value chain interventions will be intensified after the comments from HQ.

1. Proposals identified for apiculture, dairy, poultry, and small ruminants
2. Research proposal for vegetable and forage development identified. / 1. Will be commented and improved before starting field research.

1. Office for Research and Administration assistants secured and budget for office partitioning approved.
2. Office furniture for research and administration assistants’ procurement is on progress. Proforma for the purchase of furniture collected in Mekele, suppliers identified and send to LIVES HQ for approval.
3. Recruitment of administration assistant started in Mekele with the coaching of HR representative. Winner candidate identified. / 1. The office will be partitioned by next week.
2. Furniture purchase is expected by next week.
3. Administration assistant employment is in the hands of the HR and may be on board in the next couple of weeks.
