SERRV International is hiring a Director of Finance in Westminster, Maryland.

Reporting to the chief executive officer (CEO), the Director of Finance will be responsible for oversight of all finance, accounting and reporting activities for SERRV LLC and SERRV International Inc., a $10M non-profit organization dedicated to reducing poverty by selling handcrafts and foods made by artisans and farmers in impoverished parts of the world.

As a key member of the Executive Management team, the Director of Finance will assume a strategic role in the overall management of the company, working closely with the senior management team and leading all day-to-day finance operations, includingdirect responsibility for accounting, payroll, finance, forecasting and strategic planning.This is a unique opportunity for an accounting and finance leader to be part of a dynamic mission and organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage a finance staff of 2 people.
  • Consistently analyze financial data and communicatemonthly and annual financial reports in a clear, accurate and timely manner. Monitor progress and changes, and keep senior leadership abreast of SERRV’scash position and financial status.
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, donor records and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee and lead annual budget planning in conjunction with the CEO; administer and monitor all financial plans and budgets.
  • Maintain appropriate internal controls and financial procedures for receipt of revenue and expenditures.Oversee cash flow planning and ensure availability of funds as needed.
  • Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and usefulness of financial and management reporting for SERRV’s board of directors. Effectively communicate critical financial matters, and engage the BOD’s finance committee as needed to develop financial plans and projections.
  • Develop and utilize forward-looking, predictive models and activity-based financial analyses to provide insight into the organization’s operations and business plans.
  • Work in partnership with senior management to assess the financial efficacy of program operations and establish finance and administrative systems to support program operations.
  • Oversee all accounts receivable and accounts payable, including accruals for partner programs and monitoring of collection issues with customer care.
  • Maintain payroll records and approve bi-weekly payroll. Enroll new full-time staff in benefits programs, and administrate insurance and pension program.
  • Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors, and represent the company to financial partners, including financial institutions, investors and auditors.
  • Complete tax reporting requirements with external accountants where appropriate.
  • Complete annual charitable registration for states where SERRV solicits donations.
  • Prepare financial statements and administer semi-annual payments for SERRV LLC loan fund investors.
  • Participate in corporate policy development as a member of the senior management team, and provide administrative leadership in our Westminster office.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A seasoned leader with a minimum of 10 years ofexperience in accounting and finance, showing progressive growth in responsibility, preferably in a nonprofit organization
  • Solid experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll and accounting for investments
  • Analytic, organization and problem solving skills which allow for strategic data interpretation versus simple reporting
  • Strong communication and leadership skills; experience in effectively communicating key data to senior management, board or other outside partners
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • BS in finance or accounting; a CPA and/or MBA a plus
  • Securities license Level 6, an asset
  • Experience in, or knowledge of, nonprofit accounting, including sophisticated fund accounting, compliance and reporting
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to SERRV’s nonprofit mission
