AHOUSE RESOLUTION
TO COMMENDTHEAMERICANTREEFARMSYSTEM ANDTHE SOUTH CAROLINA CERTIFIED TREE FARM PROGRAM FORTHEIR WISEMANAGEMENT OFOURFORESTRESOURCES, AND TO CONGRATULATE THEAMERICANTREEFARMSYSTEM ON THE OCCASION OF ITS SEVENTYFIFTH ANNIVERSARY.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that 2016 marks the seventyfifth anniversaryof the AmericanTreeFarmSystem, which hasprovided the Palmetto State withtreesfor today, as well as for the future, through the farsighted stewardship of South Carolina’sforestresources; and
Whereas, in1941,whenforestryonprivatelandswasbeginningtoemerge,asmallgroupof foresterscreatedtheAmericanTreeFarmSystemtoencourageandpromotereforestationandgood landmanagementpracticesforpresentandfuturegenerations; and
Whereas, having begun in thePacificNorthwest, the AmericanTreeFarmSystemhad spreadtoall fifty states by 1975. In 2016, theAmericanTreeFarmSystemis celebrating three quarters of a century of advocating and following prudent forest practices in this great country; and
Whereas, the system has made enormous contributions in nurturing South Carolina forestsforthebenefitofall;and
Whereas, beforeitbecamefashionabletoplanttreesandcareforourforests,forestersvolunteering with theAmericanTreeFarmSystemwereencouraging, throughaprogramofrecognizingsustainableforeststewardship, theplantingandnurturingofforestsonprivatelands;and
Whereas, theAmericanTreeFarmSystemandthe South Carolina Certified Tree Farm Programareshining lights in South Carolina’searlycommitmenttoconservation, demonstrated by their work to protectforestresourceswhilealsoprovidingforestproductsfor the citizens of South Carolina and all other Americans;and
Whereas, asresidentsofone of this nation’sleading states in the production of forestproducts, South Carolinianshave recognized, andwillcontinuetorecognize, thecriticalroletreesplayin South Carolina toward the provision of wood and paper products, clean water and air, recreation, and the protection of wildlife. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
Thatthe members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, commendtheAmericanTreeFarmSystem andthe South Carolina Certified Tree Farm Program fortheir wisemanagement ofourforestresources, and congratulate theAmericanTreeFarmSystem on the occasion of its seventyfifth anniversary.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to theAmericanTreeFarmSystem andthe South Carolina Certified Tree Farm Program.
