23rd ACEA MARATONA DI ROMA

On Sunday, April 2, the event will be broadcast live on the TV channel RaiSport and in 120 countries. The start is in via dei Fori Imperiali at 8:35 am. The route includes more than 500 famous locations. The 4-km non-competitive race will finish at Circo Massimo. One-hundred thousand runners are expected to take part in the event.

The 23rdedition ofAcea Maratona di Roma,IAAF Silver Label Road Race, will take place on Sunday, April 2, 2017. The start is at 8:35 am in via dei Fori Imperiali and the finish line is in the same place, very close to the Colosseo.

16,107 RUNNERS IN ROME

16,107 runners registered for the marathon: the Italian ones are 8,818 (54,7%), the other 7,293 (45,3%) are from 130 countries from all the five continents. Among the participants, 12,636 (78,4%) are men and 3,471 (21,6%) are women.

TV BROADCAST IN 74 COUNTRIES

In Italy, the event will be broadcast live on RaiSport from 8:20 am to 11:40 am. The Swiss company Exora Sa, an advisor for international TV rights, has been authorised to broadcast the race live for 3 hours in 74 countries.

FUN RUN FOR 80,000

There will be also a 4-km non-competitive race, the Fun Run,open to everyone who loves to run. Last years more than 80,000 people took part. The start is in via dei Fori Imperiali just after the competitive race and the finish line is at Circo Massimo.

ECONOMIC IMPACT ON THE CITY

The event is a virtuous example of successful interaction with the local economy: indeed, its total financial proceeds (both from the event itself and from collateral activities) are estimated to total around EUR 35 mln. This confirms that great sports events successfully contribute to the economy, both at the local and at the national level.

2017 ROUTE: THE BEST OF ROME

Like the last year there will be a progressive start. The handbikers start at 8:35 am, then the marathon runners start in three waves: 8:40, 08:45, 8:51 am. The limit time is 7 hours and 30 minutes. The route of Acea Maratona di Roma 2017 is similar to last year's route and will include the most famous places of worship in the Capital: St. Peter's, the Synagogue, and the Mosque. Via dei Fori Imperiali will host the most emotional moments of the marathon: the start and the finish. Both the start and finish line are near the Foro di Traiano-Campidoglio: the start line is placed towards Piazza Venezia, via del Teatro Marcello, while the finish line proceeds from via IV Novembre-Piazza Venezia, in front of the Colosseo. The route has 70 changes of directions (no sharp turns) and 7 km covered with sampietrini stones. The route includes nearly all Rome's most important and famous locations, more than 500.

A GREAT EVENT FOR THE CITY: 54MUSICAL AND SPORTS EVENTS FOR 42 KM

Acea Maratona di Roma is not only a great sports event. Along the race's route a great celebration will take place, with 54 events in 42 km. Art and music performances will entertain the race's participants and viewers during the marathon. There will be DJ sets, live music, arts and sports performances and the traditional International Folk Festival inside Circo Massimo.

THE TOP AFRICAN ATHLETES RUNNING FOR VICTORY

WOMEN. The two ethiopian athletes Koren Jelela (age 30, p.b. 2:22.43) and Edesa Workenesh (age 25, p.b. 2:24.04) are ready to break the course record set in 2008 by russian athlete Galina Bogomolova (2:22.53). There will be others potential champion: the Italian Rosaria Console (age 37, p.b. 2:26.10), the last year winner, ethiopian Rahma Tusa (age 24, p.b. 2:28.49), another three ethiopian athletes, Yimer Wude Ayalev (age 30, p.b. 2:27.08), Konjit Biruk Tilahun (age 30, p.b. 2:28.10) and Abeba Tekulu Gebremeskei (age 28, p.b. 2:30.18), and the kenian atheletes Esther Chemtai Ndiema (age 28, p.b. 2:28.41) and Beatrice Lelagat Cherop (age 29, p.b. 2:31.07).

MEN. Five ethiopian athletes are ready to win the Acea Maratona di Roma 2017: Adane Bentayehu (age 24, 2:06.22), Dereje Tadess Raya (age 29, p.b. 2:08.46), Shura Kitata (age 20, p.b. 2:08.53), the 2014 winner Shume Hailu (age 30, p.b. 2:09.06) and Mesfin Teshome (age 26, p.b. 2:09.24). And two kenian athletes are favourite too: Barnabas Kiptum (age 30, p.b. 2:09.21) and Ruto Dominic (age 27, p.b. 2:09.28) who last year finished in third place.

HANDBIKE: "KING" ALEX ZANARDI AIMS AT HIS 6TH SUCCESS IN ROME

The handbike race is promoted by the Italian Bicycle Federation. Recordman and former F1 driver Alex Zanardi is the most expected protagonist: after six participations and five wins (in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016, when Zanardi set the route's record of 1:09.15), the 50-year-old paralympic and world champion comes back to Rome to win for the sixth time.

CHARITY PROGRAM 2017

Acea Maratona di Roma and Roma Fun Run are associated to Rete del Dono, the first Italian Network Fundraising portal, for the 2017 Charity Program. The website retedeldono.it contains the personal pages of all the runners who raise funds for an association, thus contributing in a simple and social way to the achievement of the Charity's goals. More than 200 fundraiser marathon runners have raised funds to promote a charity and more than10,000 Roma Fun Run participants involved by the 45 associations have joined the Charity Program.

THE MARATHON VILLAGE:

The Marathon Village is at Palazzo dei Congressi, in the EUR area (Piazza John F. Kennedy, 1). A surface of 21,000 m2 (13,000 indoors and 8, 000outdoors) will host more than 80,000 people expected to visit the 200 stands. For three days, from Thursday 30 march to Saturday 1 april (from 10a.m. to 8 p.m.), cultural, scientific, sports and recreational events will take place. The Village is also the official merchandise selling point of the Marathon's New Balance merchandising and the registration point for Fun Run. Entrance is free.
