Entry Requirements for Home/EU and Overseas Students starting courses 2017/18

Introduction

Academic Board is asked to receive and approve entry requirements to AUB courses for students starting September 2017.

The requirements detailed below have not changed from the previous year. The main changes that have been made are in relation to the New Ucas Tariff. The grades that can be achieved in level 3 qualifications will not change, only the tariff point attached to that particular grade will change. AUB standard offers and the grades we ask for have not been changed.

Diploma in Art and Design- Foundation Studies

UK Qualifications:

5 GCSE/ IGCE passes at grade C (old GCSE) or grade 4 (new style GCSE) or above which must include: English, Mathematics and an Art, Design or Media subject

Plus relevant level 3 qualifications with a minimum of 64 New UCAS tariff Points.

The minimum of 2 GCE A-Level passes, at grade C or above (one of which should be in a relevant creative subject)

2 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma passes at grade Merit

Or a combination of BTEC SubsidiaryDiploma and A level

International Baccalaureate (IB) score of 24 or above

UAL Extended Diploma Pass

BTEC / OCR Extended Diploma at Merit Pass Pass

BTEC Level 3 Diploma at Merit Merit

UAL Diploma at Pass

Irish Leaving Certificate (Irish Highers) in a minimum of two C grades, one of which must be in a relevant Art, Media or Design subject

Other relevant and equivalent Level 3 qualifications are considered on an individual basis and we are happy to accept applicants with a combination of level 3 qualifications.

Entry to a Foundation Diploma courseusuallyfollows two years of sixth form study.

HEU/International Qualifications:

International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimumscore of 24

European Baccalaureate with a minimum score of 65-70%

Austria – Successful completion of the Reifeprüfungzeugnis or Matura requirement is an overall average grade of 2

Belgium - Successful completion of the Diploma van Secundair Onderweijs, with an overall result of 5/10 or 11/20

Bulgaria - Pass Diploma za Sredno Obrazovanie with an overall average mark of at least 5.0

China - Successful completion of the Chinese Senior Secondary School Certificate with a minimum overall pass mark of 65% OR Pass CAFA International Foundation Year with a minimum of 70%

Cyprus - An overall score of at least 17 in Apolytirion of Eniaio Lykeio or Greek Cypriot Apolyterion.

Czech Republic - A score of 2.9 or higher in the Maturita

Denmark - Successful completion of the Studentereksamen with an overall result of 6/12

Estonia - Successful completion of Gümnaasiumi Lõputunnistus with an overall average result of 4.0 or above in all subjects, and Riigieksamid (National Exams) with average result of 70% in tests taken.

Finland - Successful completion of the Ylioppilastutkinto / Studentexamen with a result of 4/6 (Cum Laude).

France - A good pass (grade 10 or above) in the Baccalaureate. Baccalaureate à Option Internationale / Baccalaureate de l'Enseignement du Second Degré

Germany - A good pass in the Abitur grade (gut) Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife / Zeugnis der Reife / Reifezeugnis

Ghana - Successful completion of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) with at least five subjects at grades A-C

Greece - An overall score of at least 17 in Apolytirion of Eniaio Lykeio or Greek Cypriot Apolyterion.

Hong Kong - Achieve 544 to 543 in core or elective subjects (excluding liberal and general studies).

Hungary - 3.0 or better in the Erettsegi

Iceland - Successful completion of Iceland Studentsprof with minimum of 7 in English when taken as a compulsory language.

India - 55% on 12th standard + 55% on 10th standard (including maths) Accepted exam boards: CBSE, CISCE, Maharashtra, Delhi, Tamil Nadu & West Bengal.

Ireland- Pass FETAC: 3 subjects with Merit. Or Irish Leaving Certificate (Irish Highers) in a minimum of two B grades, one of which must be in a relevant Art, Media or Design subject

Italy - A minimum of 70 points in Diploma di Esame di Stato (formerly Diploma di Maturita)

Japan - Successful completion of the Japanese Upper Secondary School Leaving Certificate with a minimum overall pass mark of 3 OR successful completion of JCFL Study Overseas Art and Design college program.

Latvia - Good grades (7 – 8) in the Atestats par visparejo videjo izglitibu, plus a grade 8 for English

Lithuania - Brandos Atestatas overall grade 6 plus 50% overall grade at state examinations

Malaysia - Successful completion of Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (Malaysia Higher School Certificate) with grades BBB

Netherlands - Successful completion of the VWO Diploma with an overall results of 6/10

Nigeria - Successful completion of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) with at least five subjects at grades A-C

Norway - Vitnemal: den Videeregaende Skole Examen Artium (with 4 in key subjects including English)

Oman - General Education Diploma with a minimum 80% mark

Poland -Successful completion of the Matura with an overall result of 60%

Portugal - Diploma de Ensino Secundário / Certificado de fim de Estudios Secundários with an average score of 16.0 in all subjects

Romania - Pass Romania- Diploma de Bacalaureat with grade 7 or above.

Russia - Successful completion of the Attestat with grade 3 overall.

Slovakia - Slovakia-Vysvedcenie o Maturitnej Skuske with a minimum of grade 2.0 (chvalitebny) in all subjects with the majority at grade 1.0 (vyborny)

South Africa - Successful completion of the South African National Senior Certificate with grades ABBBB/76666

South Korea - Successful completion of the South Korean High School Diploma with grades above mi (70-79)

Spain - Pass Titulo de Bachillerato with an average mark of 5.5 or higher

Sweden - minimum grade of 14 in the Avgångsbetyg / Slutbetyg från Gymnasieskola, plus VG/MVG in the 'B' course in English

Switzerland - Pass Cantonal Maturity Certificate or a Federal Maturity Certificate, or a professional Maturity Certificate at grade 4.

Taiwan- Successful completion of the Taiwanese Senior High School Leaving Certificate with a minimum overall pass mark of 65%

Turkey – Successful completion of the devlet Teknik LISE Diplomasi or Devlet Meslek LISE with grades of 3.5 or above.

USA -Successful completion of the High School Diploma. If taking AP classes, two AP scores of 3 or higher with at least one subject relevant to the degree. These scores should also be supported by a High School Diploma.

Vietnam - Successful completion of and evidence of Tot Nghiep Pho Thong trung Hoc (Upper secondary School Graduation Certificate)

Applicants whose first language is not English should have an IELTS score of at least 5.5 for the Foundation Diploma with 5.0 in each component. IELTS scores must be less than 2 years old at the time the course commences to be valid. For other acceptable English Language qualifications please see the tables below.

For all students who require a Tier 4 Visa, the IELTS test must be taken at an approved UKVI test centre that includes a unique UKVI reference number on the certificate.

International Art, Design and Media Intensive Course

All applicants will need to have completed 12 years of school education for entry onto this course.Applicants to the course without the English option must have IELTS 6 with a minimum 5.5 in all sections, or an acceptable equivalent English Language qualification.

Applicants to the “with English” option must have a minimum of IELTS 5 in all sections.

Higher Education Courses: BA Honours Degrees

All applicants must have a minimum of5 GCSE passes at grade C (old GCSE) or grade 4 (new GCSE grading) or above, which must include English and Maths. We also accept equivalent qualifications at Level 2 such as Key Skills, Functional Skills, ALAN tests or the BTEC First Diploma.

Plus arelevant Level 3 qualifications:

BBC- A Level, excluding general studies (Extended study option, 112 New UCAS Tariff points)

BBBat A Level, excluding general studies (120 New UCAS Tariff points)

3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma passes at grade Merit

Or a combination of BTEC Subsidiary Diploma and A levels (equivalent to 120 New UCAS tariff points)

International Baccalaureate (IB) score of 32 or above

Foundation Diploma Pass

UAL Extended Diploma at Merit

BTEC / OCR Extended Diploma at Distinction, Merit, Merit

BTEC Level 3 Diploma at Distinction* Distinction *

UAL Diploma must be combined with other level 3 qualifications equivalent to 112-120 New UCAS Tariff points

Scottish Highers- 5 passes at grade C or above

Pass Irish FETAC in 3 subjects with Distinction and 2 with Merit.

Irish Leaving Certificate (Irish Highers) : A2, B1, B2, B2, B3, B3 to include a relevant subject

Other relevant and equivalent Level 3 qualifications are considered on an individual basis and we are happy to accept applicants with a combination of level 3 qualifications.

Qualifications that are not currently tariffed will also be considered on an individual basis.

ABB at A level or equivalent to 128 New UCAS tariff points

International Baccalaureate Diploma score of 32

European Baccalaureate with a minimum score of 75%

We will consider all applicants with relevant qualifications and in special circumstances we may make lower offers to applicants who have exceptional portfolios or have relevant practical skills or experience who will not meet the standard offer for the course.

BA Honours Degree – APEL

Students enrolling directly onto a Level 5 or 6 will be subject to the successful completion and acceptance of units in their current or previous qualification.

Applicants whose first language is not English should have an IELTS score of 6.5 with 5.5 in each component or other recognised equivalent.

Postgraduate courses MA

Applicants will normally be in possession of a BA (Hons) Degree in Arts, Design, Media or Performance graded at 2.1 or above or an equivalent international qualification. Applicants with other than the required academic qualifications may be considered for entry if there is sufficient evidence to indicate that they have the potential to fulfil the objectives of the course of study and to achieve the standard of the final award.

Applicants whose first language is not English should have an IELTS score in the range of 6.5 to 7.0, or other recognised equivalent.

MArch (Master of Architecture)

The course is for applicants seeking a route to registration in the UK and who already have Part 1 exemption as well as at least a year's professional experience. However, there may be opportunities for students without this work experience to join the course.

Applicants must have:

  • ARB/RIBA Part 1 or exemption from it;
  • in most cases, not less than 40 weeks of appropriate professional experience prior to entry

Applicants whose first language is not English should have an IELTS score in the range of 6.5 to 7.0 with 5.5 in each component, or other recognised equivalent. IELTS scores must be less than 2 years old at the time the course commences to be valid
