Welcome to La Mirada High School and to Pre-AP Language Arts!
Required Summer Reading:
Text: Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
Cost: Can be found for under $10 in paperback format
There are several reprints and editions available online and at book stores. Any edition, as long as it is NOT abridged, is acceptable. The full text on Nook, Kindle or similar readers, especially with note-taking capabilities, are all acceptable.
It is highly recommend that you purchase a copy of the summer reading novel, rather than borrow one from a library. It will make class activities on the book much easier. If you are getting a used book, please make sure it is mostly note-free for your reading and note-taking.
Book guides, both printed and online, such as Sparks Notes, Cliff Notes etc. do not take the place of reading the book and cannot give you the flavor of the author’s style, voice, attitude and diction, which you will want to include in your works. I’m honestly looking for your own original ideas, not how well you can find and use information from others.
Writing, discussions, activities, quizzes and an exam on the novel can be expected in the fall.
