A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor of the Reverend Earl Jackson.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay tribute to the Reverend Earl Jackson.

WHEREAS, Earl Jackson, along with his brother and sister, grew up in humble surroundings in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where his father worked in a department store and his mother was a domestic worker; and

WHEREAS, Earl Jackson attended Tennessee State University, as well as studying at Emanuel Bible College and American Baptist College; and he earned a Bachelor of Divinity degree, an Associate of Divinity degree, a Master of Divinity degree, and a Doctor of Divinity degree; and

WHEREAS, during high school, Earl Jackson worked as a shoeshine boy, which allowed him to accumulate enough money to enter Tennessee State University; and while attending the higher education institutions, Earl Jackson held jobs in dining rooms at Tennessee State University and Maharry Medical College, and he worked as an orderly at Baptist Hospital and Vanderbilt Medical Center; and

WHEREAS, Earl Jackson was ordained a minister in 1965; he preached the word of God in Tennessee at Tullahoma Mount Zion Baptist Church, and he was called to New Bethel Baptist Church in Bowling Green, Warren County, Kentucky, in 1968, where he continues to pastor; and he is well known for the radio ministry that he began in 1969, and where he can still be heard every Sunday evening on WKCT; and he is president of the Kentucky State Missionary Baptist Missionary and Education convention which consists of seventeen churches with a membership of more than 1,700; and

WHEREAS, Earl Jackson is a unique human being with a gift of turning prejudice into humor rather than permitting anger and resentment to be controlling factors in his life, and he is proud of the fact that he is the only African-American in the history of Kentucky to continuously work for twenty-nine years in job service in Bowling Green; and

WHEREAS, Earl Jackson is an active and involved citizen of the Warren County community where he is a member of the Kiwanis Club; he is a thirty-third degree Mason; he is a member of the Order of Eastern Star; and he is a member of the Bowling Green Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity; and

WHEREAS, Earl Jackson is married to his lovely wife, Barbara Jackson, and they have two sons who served their country with distinction in the United States Navy, and they are the proud grandparents of three grandchildren;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate is indeed proud and honored to recognize the Reverend Earl Jackson for his many years of public service to the Bowling Green and Warren County community. He has demonstrated strong character and he is an element of invincible strength to all the lives he has touched.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of the Reverend Earl Jackson.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Senator Brett Guthrie for presentation to the Reverend Earl Jackson.
