Lotto: Lotto returns next Tuesday 25th August, jackpot €20,000, reserve jackpot €9,400.

Division 1: We picked up a valuable point in the division one league on Saturday evening although we could have had the win as we were four points up with only two minutes remaining. But we are now guaranteed to be in the same league next season and could still have an outside chance of getting into the top four. Our first half performance left a lot to be desired on Saturday but whatever was said at half time worked because we were a very different team in the second half and dominated the whole half until the last couple of minutes. Our next outing will be the championship quarter final against the county champions St. Patricks and we need all hands on deck for this one but on and off the field.

Team: Sean Connolly; David Hoey, Conor Byrne, PJ Tuite; Jackie Agnew 0-2, Jason Carroll 0-2, Keith Ryan; Salem Rifaie 0-1, Dean Stanfield; Paul McKeever 0-3, Niall Conlon0-1(f), Conor Culligan 0-2; Cian Doyle 0-5(2f), Sean Cairns, Stuart Reynolds 0-1(f). U14 Championship, 8/8/15: Home advantage in the Grove for what would be the first ever taste of championship football for all these lads. This U14 game was a hard one to start with as the O’ Raghallaighs are strong at under age at present but we were determined to give it our best shot. Unfortunately we had a few of our regular starters and stronger players missing due to holidays but the team was boosted by the return of a few lads we hadn't seen in a while which was positive. The game started at a tremendous pace with both teams getting some early points to settle into the game then we conceded a penalty with our keeper having no choice only to take the O’Raghallaighs player down, lucky for us he didn't see a red card but lucky for them as they scored. This seemed to give them the spark to push on and they got another goal shortly after with a mix up in defence and a one on one situation which give our keeper little chance. We did manage to get a goal back thanks to Harry Butterly and we actually finished the half the stronger but unfortunately we found ourselves trailing at half time 1-3 to O’Raghallaighs 2-4. We had the nightmare start to the 2ndhalf with Jamie Molloy receiving a black card almost from the throw in and then they punished us more with another goal. We seem to lose our shape with Jamie gone and lads dropped their heads and didn't have that hunger to battle for every ball which was disappointing as we were well capable of causing an upset in this game. The visitors got through for another goal and although we did reply with a few good points of our own it wasn't enough and the Drogheda side ran out winners on a score line of 5-7 to our 1-8. We still have one more chance to come out of the group but we need to win our next game and with the return of the lads that were on holidays we certainly would be optimistic.
Team was Ryan Mc Fall, Killian Wall, Mark Byrne, Anton Mc Areavy, Brendain Sadlier, Robert Mc Carthy, James Reilly, Bobby Butterly, Reece mc Fall,Jamie Molloy, Calium Woods, Darragh Mc Donnell, Evan Reilly, Harry Butterly. Subs Jack Dunne, Dirmuid Martin, Eoin Clerkin and Reece Reilly.

U12 League B S/F, 18/8/15: We had home advantage by means of a toss and played the Sean O’ Mahonys in the Grove, on our last clash with the O’Mahonys we managed a one point win on the point road so this was always going to be a close game. We are usually a very slow starting team but not on this occasion with our 1stscore being a goal and we also notched on some well worked points to lead by 1-2 to no score early in the game. The Sean’s found there feet and got some good scores of their own but we stood tall and worked really hard for each other and bombarded the visitor’s goals and we went in at half time with what seemed a very comfortable lead of 3-6 to 1-2. Although we did warn our lads at half time to keep focused that nothing was won yet and that the O’Mahonys would go for goals at all costs. It seemed to fall on deaf ears and the two first scores of the 2nd half were goals for the O’ Mahonys but thankfully we did regroup and with some wonderful team play we notched some great scores of our own which managed to keep that space between us on the scoreboard. Credit to visitor’s they never give up and were lucky with some of the goals they got as our keeper did pull of some great saves only to see them rebound into the net. It was a very entertaining game and I am sure to a neutral it was very enjoyable to watch, but for us on the line it was nerve racking waiting for that final whistle but when it did it was met with great cheer. Final score O Connell's/Stabannon 5-14 O’Mahonys 5-6. Wonderful achievement for the lads to reach another final and we will play the Clans with a date and venue to be decided.
Team was Darragh Mc Donnell,Killian Wall, Owen Clerkin, Dirmuid Martin, Danillie Clinton, Ryan Halpenny,Sean Reynolds, Harry Butterly, Jack Dunne, Calium Woods, Johnny Mc Gee, Reece Reilly, Tadgh Kearney. Subs were Conor Ewing and Jamie Hughes.
