Leland J. Armstrong
Randolph Center, Leland J. Armstrong, 72, died unexpectedly on Saturday, March 24, 2007 at Rutland Regional Medical Center in Rutland.
He was born April 30, 1934 in East Randolph the son of Harold W. and Florence (Piche) Armstrong.
Leland attended Randolph schools and graduated from Randolph High School in 1952. He was married to Veronica Owen July 16, 1955 in Randolph.
Following his education he went to work at L.W. Greenwood’s in E. Randolph. He worked there for 44 years as a mechanic and later as a shop foreman. He then worked for his son Perry as manager of Four Seasons Rental from 1993-2001. After that he helped his wife at Veronica’s Garden in Randolph Center.
His memberships included the Green Mountain Gospel
Chapel, E. Randolph and Randolph Center Fire Departments, Randolph Zoning Board, White River Valley Ambulance and the National Ski Patrol, Vermont Region- patrolling at Pinnacle Ski Area in Randolph and Norwich Ski Area in Northfield. He was an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan. He loved skiing and wind surfing. He also enjoyed sugaring, kyaking and teaching his grandchildren to ski. In earlier years he liked swimming and water skiing.
He is survived by his wife Veronica Armstrong of Randolph Center, 2 sons; Perry Armstrong of Randolph and Douglas Armstrong of Randolph Center, a daughter Deborah Sanders of Shaftsbury, 3 brothers; Marshall
Armstrong of Boston, MA, Lawrence and Stanley Armstrong both of E. Randolph and 6 grandchildren; Jessica Martell, Christopher and Cody Armstrong, Kristen Cables and Lyle and Abigail Sanders.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 28, 11:00 A.M. at the
Green Mountain Gospel Chapel, Rte. 66 in Randolph, with Rev. Ronald E.
Rilling officiating. Burial will be at a later date in
the Randolph Center Cemetery.
