Days/Hours:3 days per week/17.5 hours a week

Salary Grade/ Scale: SO1 - SCP 29

Annual Leave: 25 days per annum/ pro rata (12 days).

Reporting to: TheManager of Home-Start Camden

This is a three year contract.

Main purposes of the post

  • To deliver Home Start Camden’s support to families with a least one child under 5, maintaining high standards of practice within the ethos of Home-Start.
  • To ensure that volunteers are trained and appropriately matched with families in need of support.
  • To provide on-going support for volunteers and families ensuring quality standards and identified outcomes are achieved.
  • To support the implementation and review of all Home-Start policies and procedures including safeguarding children.
  • To ensure inclusion and diversity in all aspects of the scheme’s operation and work.

Main responsibilities

Support for families

  • Receiving referrals and assessing the needs of families living in the borough of Camden, which may include signposting families to appropriate family support services offered by other statutory and voluntary organisations.
  • Ensuring support to families is reviewed at regular intervals and at the end of Home-Start Camden’s support.
  • To undertake the designated responsibilities for safeguarding and promoting children’s welfare.
  • Attending case conferences and writing reports as required.

Managing Volunteers

  • Recruiting, selecting and providing accredited training to volunteers.
  • Matching and introducing volunteers to families.
  • Providing volunteers with support and supervision to ensure quality standards and safeguarding issues are monitored effectively.
  • To support volunteers by sign posting to job, education and training opportunities.

Working in Partnership and managing the wider context

  • Liaising with referrers.
  • Networking appropriately within the community.
  • Promoting the scheme its profile, ethos and practice.
  • Developing strong liaison and partnerships with other professionals and agencies delivering services to young parents.
  • Contributing to the development of Home-Start Camden locally, regionally and nationally.

Administration

  • Maintaining confidential manual and electronic record systems for caseload families and volunteers.
  • In consultation with the Manager and Scheme Administrator, maintain quarterly and annual computerised monitoring data to meet the monitoring requirements of Home-StartUK and funders.
  • To produce and circulate publicity material to promote our volunteer courses, family support and general work.

Personal Development

  • To attend necessary training concerning children and families that encourages the development of effective work with Home-Start families and volunteers.
  • To maintain contact with Home-Start and attend relevant meetings and training.
  • To undergo regular supervision and an annual appraisal that includes identifying and recording development and training needs.

General duties

  • To submit regular reports to the Manager for the Board of Trustees and attend meetings as requested.
  • To work within the budgetary limits set down by the Board of Trustees.
  • To ensure, with other staff, that outcomes for the scheme are monitored and reviewed regularly.
  • To participate in fundraising activities and family and volunteer events as required.
