1.  Effect of alkyl group length of the imidazolium cation

Fig. 1S Effect of alkyl group length of the imidazolium cation. Separations were carried out in the BGE of 200 mM HAc (a) that was added to 50 μM [C4MIm]Br (b), 50 μM [C8MIm]Br (c), 50 μM [C12MIm]Br (d). Samples were injected by siphon of 28 cm × 20 s. Separation voltage, 12 kV; capillary length, 39.5 cm (with effective length of 30 cm); C4D excitation: 75 kHz at 9.8 V. Peak identities and concentrations (in μg mL-1): 1, LZ (100); 2, HSA (100); 3, TF (100); 4, MB (50); 5, TRI (200); 6, HB (150); 7, CL (200). Traces are offset for clarity.

2.  Determination of the CMC of [C12MIm]Br

Variation in conductance values as a function of [C12MIm]Br concentration is plotted in Fig. 2S. Line a and b correspond to the concentration range below and above the CMC, respectively. The linear equations of them are:

y=0.053x + 0.643 (a)

y=0.017x + 1.136 (b)

The value of R2 are 0.99919 and 0.95513 for eq. (a) and for eq. (b), respectively. The CMC of [C12MIm]Br is 13.7 mM, as obtained from the equations.

3.  EOF of the IL coated capillary

EOF was determined by the migration time of neutral marker (acetone solution). Fig. 3S shows the influence of IL coating on EOF.

The marker was injected by siphon of 28 cm × 5 s. Separation voltage, 12 kV; capillary length, 39.5 cm (with effective length of 30 cm); C4D excitation: 75 kHz at 9.8 V.
