Bruce Castle to Markfield Recreation Ground
Toilets
Disabled toilet available inside Bruce Castle Museum.
Hazards and Accessibility
After Carbuncle Passage, the Better Haringey Trail is inaccessible for wheelchair users. Instead, go along Rosebury Avenue and Park View Road, rejoining the Better Haringey Trail at Ferry Lane.
Steps:
· Over the footbridge on both sides
Rough/uneven track:
· Track towards Stonebridge Lock later joins a solid gravel path to Stonebridge Lock car park.
Steep Slope:
· From Stonebridge Lock onto the River Lea towpath.
· At Tottenham Lock down under Ferry Lane.
Markfield Recreation Ground to Finsbury Park
Hazards and Accessibility
No drop kerb:
· In Vartry Road crossing Franklin Road
· In Vartry Road crossing St. Johns Road
· In Eade Road, crossing side roads on right side
Restricted footpath:
· Cars park on the pavement in Eade Road
· Roadworks at the end of Eade Road
· Keep left on Eade Road to avoid dropped kerbs
Uneven Surface:
· At Green Lanes, wheelchair users should now take the alternative route north through Haringey Passage, since Parkland Walk, after Finsbury Park, is rough and uneven.
Finsbury Park to Highgate Library
Hazards and Accessibility
The start of the Parkland Walk after Finsbury Park is not accessible for wheelchairs. It is unmade and muddy in places. The alternative route is through Haringey Passage, then up Alexandra Road joining the High Road. Follow the High Road until Haringey Council’s Civic Centre, where you can rejoin the main trail route.
Alternatively, there is an access point to the Parkland Walk at road level after Mount Pleasant Villages at Blythwood Road, although the path here is still quite rough.
Steep Slope:
· There is a steep path up Holmesdale Road, exiting the Parkland Walk.
Highgate Library to Civic Centre
Toilets
· Disabled toilet at the Pavilion in Highgate Wood.
· Good disabled toilet facilities at Alexandra Palace.
Hazards and Accessibility
There is a ramp up to the Library entrance. After this, wheelchair users should continue along Archway Road, missing out Queens Wood, and rejoin the Better Haringey Trail at Highgate Wood.
Steps:
· The route through Highgate Tube Station has many steps in and out and so is not accessible to wheelchair users.
· The Rose Garden at Alexandra Palace has only steps to exit at the far side. Wheelchair users should detour along Alexandra Palace Way to rejoin the route at the exit from the park, or use the new path that goes around the outside of the Rose Garden.
Uneven Surface:
· The path through Queens Wood is uneven and slippery in places
No drop kerb:
· There is no drop kerb crossing Queens Wood Road.
Steep path:
· Steep path with good surface down to the footbridge at Alexandra Palace BR station.
Good Surface:
· Highgate Wood: Good surface on some paths and ramp from New Gate.
· There is a good surface in the Parkland Walk after Highgate Wood, and a ramp from Muswell Hill Road for access.
Civic Centre to Bruce Castle
Hazards and Accessibility
Good Surface:
· Drop kerbs and hard surface throughout.
