ALC Offerings at Marcy Open School

Classes are open to students who need assistance meeting grade level standards. This is based on report card data, testing data, and teacher recommendation.

K and 1st – Offered Monday – Tuesday – Wednesday

Literacy and Math support with Mark – Students will work to improve their math and reading skills following the Minneapolis Public Schools standards through the use of games, technology and much more.

K – 3rd - Offered Monday and Wednesday

JR. GEMS/JR. GISE with Jeremy - Girls in Engineering, Mathematics, and Science (Little GEMS) and Guys in Science and Engineering (Jr. GISE) are after-school and summer programs designed specifically for K-8th grade girls and boys (respectively) in the Minneapolis Public School District. The goal of these programs is for students to have measurable and significant gains in mathematics and science. Inaugurated in 1997, the success of GEMS prompted the development of GISE in 2006. The GEMS and Jr. GISE programs started in the fall of 2010.

4th – 8th - Offered Monday and Wednesday

GEMS and GISES with Steven - In this exciting robotics class students learn mechanical design, construction, programming, and teamwork skills. In pairs, using LEGO building elements, motors, and sensors, students build different robot prototypes and program them with a computer to move, react, and make sounds. Students will utilize their prototypes and programming to solve design challenges using the LEGO Mindstorms NXT Robotic System or the Lego EV3 Robotic System.

3rd and 4th - Offered on Wednesday

Math support with Rhonda – Students will work to improve their math skills following the Minneapolis Public Schools standards through games, technology and much more.
