Games Management Team
Basic request of your time before events:
- attend full games management team meetings for updates
- attend a venue visit to plan specific activities
- communicate regularly via email and cell

Job Descriptions
Venue Manager
This person will ensure that all members of the venue team are working in concert with each other. They will serve as the key liaison with the facility. In most cases, they will also handle all of the logistics.
Competition Manager
The competition manager will become familiar with the schedule for their venue, run the coaches’ meeting, oversee all competition, work with the officials, and handle any competition protests.
Results Coordinator
The results coordinator will lead the accurate and timely recording of competition results, track and compile standings of heats, rounds, or brackets, as appropriate. They will work closely with the administration manager and provide output to the awards manager. In some cases, the role of results coordinator and administration manager are combined.
Administration Manager
This individual will collect all competition results and enter them into the software system used by SONC (only for cheerleading and skills and then one person for all team competition)
Awards Manager
This person will work with a team of volunteers to conduct the awards ceremonies at the conclusion of competition presenting medals and ribbons following the Special Olympics protocol.
Volunteer and Information Services Manager
The volunteer manager will monitor the list of volunteers assigned to their venue, communicate with them prior to the event, and then ensure that all general volunteers are properly trained and placed when they arrive at the event. The volunteer manager is available to address questions throughout the day, and may oversee an information table and assign volunteers to provide information to families, friends and fans enjoying the competition. In some cases, this position will be combined with the awards manager.
Logistics and Transportation Manager
The logistics manager will handle all of the non-competition aspects at the venue including delivery of equipment, general setup of the venue, distribution of lunches, work with medical personnel, and teardown of the venue. Included in this role is ensuring there is a safe and efficient process for athlete arrivals and departures at the venue.
Athlete Representative
A Special Olympics athlete not competing in basketball or cheerleading who would work with the venue team during the event assisting with various tasks including welcoming the athletes, distributing volunteer T-shirts, giving out information, handing out meals, etc.
Dance/Olympic Town Manager
At certain venues we would like to offer additional activities for the athletes to enjoy when they are not competing. The dance/Olympic Town manager would help line up these activities, oversee setup of the area, and manage all volunteers who would help. These activities may include karaoke, a dance, bingo, board games, arts and crafts, etc.
Director Positions
For all of the key functional areas, we would love to have someone who oversees all of the assigned managers. For example, the awards director would work with all awards managers to ensure they are prepared for the event and they would serve as a general resource for all venues throughout the Tournament.
