MEMO TO:The Consortium for the support of Full Service Schools

RE:Minutes of the Friday, November 30, 2001 Full Service Schools meeting.

1.Cooperative preschool training materials (Kids are Kids) are available at production cost rates (book and video). This is one of LTVEC’s supportive efforts on behalf of the Consortium’s efforts.

2.Ben Harrington of the Mental Health Association has mental illness posters available for a high school wellness curriculum and books about mental illness for young children.

3.Ginny Seitz Director of UT Community Partnership Center and Jessica Anders are working on a project for building self-esteem in at risk students. Community Awareness Jessica Anders 974-4542.

4.Lacretia Sanders announced NECSA training in March at EKU.

5.Joe Lynn reported that Knoxville Promise is looking for information for website and volunteers to assist for programs and services.

6.Bob Kronich presented a review of the historical development of the Consortium. He is looking to bring DCS Mental Health etc. into the schools.

7.Project graduate came to look at program on video.

8.A presentation on prevention, collaboration and systems change is scheduled for December 5th in Knoxville Ron Johnson (Boys to Men and Girls to Women) at the Raddison 8:00am - 4:30pm.

9.The group began to identify needs that the Consortium is aware to continue the development of the Full Service Schools Concept. Some of them to include:

A.Need for more volunteers at different locations (possible Knoxville College Volunteers be invited to the meetings).

B.Invite Pellissippi State in order to fulfill their volunteer requirements.

C.Don’t ignore rural schools. Possibly have a meeting focusing on rural school and Full Service Schools in Monroe County Schools in February.

D.Find better ways to notify the general public about the need for involvement and awareness.

E.Become better informed of how Full Service School activities were affecting the children.

F.Develop better promotion of the dial 211 in Knoxville for social service contacts by those who need them.

10.The next Full Service Schools meeting is on Friday, January 18, 2002 at Ramsey’s Cafeteria from 11:30am to 1:30pm. The agenda will be to continue identifying needs of children, families, schools, and communities, as well as the needs of the Consortium (that if addressed would further the goals of the Consortium). Once we complete the needs identification process we will logically focus on strategies to address them and prioritizing those strategies.
