IV. RULES

  1. Each of you are student-athletes, not athlete-students. School work will

ALWAYS come first. If you need to be in for extra help, talk to one of the

coaches before staying after school. AN ALTERNATE SOLUTION IS COMING

INTO SCHOOL EARLY FOR HELP OR MAKEUP WORK!!!!

  1. Regular practice attendance is mandatory. An excuse for missing must be okayed by one of the coaches prior to your absence. A player choosing to go on vacation during the season will lose their starting position and must earn their position back when they return. If you are on the excused sick list, you are excused from practice. You must be in school on time the day of a game or practice. Please refer to the school policy with regard to attendance. You must be in school to practice, don't come to practice sick and spread your germs!!!

If a player misses a game because of their attendance at another event, loss of playing time will be determined by the coaching staff and for the betterment of the team.

  1. Tardy to practice is a NO-NO! BE EARLY! If you are late because of staying

after school with an instructor, then bring a pass.

  1. Your equipment is your responsibility. Take care of it...don't leave gloves, tennis cans, coats, or whatever lying around the hallway. IT WILL DISAPPEAR.
  1. Know your job and your teammate's, but if a mistake is made, the coach will do the correcting. EXPECT TO BE CORRECTED, but at the same time realize that it is not something personal against you. If you are never corrected, are you being watched? Concentrate when a new idea is presented. For us to do well, we must be better prepared and not make the mistakes our opponent may make.
  1. Personal cleanliness---this means your LANGUAGE as well as your equipment. Keep the lockerroom and dugout areas clean.
  1. Any questions or problems that you might have should be directed to the coaches not to each other in the lockerroom. Bickering and complaining doesn't lead to squad unity. A real TEAM is one in which team members are close friends on the field and off. We don't want cliques. Squads that don't stick together, fall apart under pressure. Every squad member, starter or not, is important to the success of the team. We expect our bench to be our bestcheerleaders and to be prepared to fill in for a starter on short notice. BE INVOLVED!!!
  1. Report all injuries as soon as possible so treatment can be started. Let us know if your arm is sore immediately!!!!! Players are expected to be at practice even though they may be injured.
  1. An old lockerroom sign says that teams are made up of winners, losers, and joiners. By the time of our first game, we expect that our squad will be made up of WINNERS!!!!!
  1. If a player is caught breaking one of the rules of the State High School, she will be disciplined accordingly. These rules include smoking, drinking, harassment or using a controlled substance. Nothing will break the morale of the team more than someone who is breaking these training rules. A PERSON WITH A VIOLATION DURING THE SEASON WILL NOT BE SELECTED FOR ANY POST SEASON HONOR. A PERSON WITH A VIOLATION DURING THESEASON WILL NO LONGER BE A CAPTAIN.

V. VARSITY

The "A" squad consists of a maximum of 18 uniformed players. This is the number that the State High School League allows when tournament play begins. Any girl in grades 7-12 will be eligible for the varsity. If a junior doesn't receive a varsity uniform, they may play on the "JV" squad. At the coaches' discretion, players may rotate uniforms. A senior or junior not receiving a uniform for the first game can still practice to improve their squad standing. Any member of the "JV" team can also move up during the season to replace a varsity member.

VI. GAMES

All games are played on various days of the week. If a game is rained out, it will be played on the next available date or a date mutually agreed on by the administration of both schools. Games start at 4:30 in the South Suburban Conference…unless noted otherwise. It is expected that a player attend a game and not leave during the middle of the game to go to another event. The coaching staff would prefer that all players ride the bus home after away games to keep the "team" concept whether we win or lose the game. Exceptions can be made if parents want to save a trip back to town or are leaving from the game to visit relatives.
